Weekend Trips

Had a conversation about vacation with my VP today and he told me he used to often catch a red eye to NYC on Friday nights and fly back in time for work the following Monday.

Have any of you done this before, not just for NYC, but in general?

How enjoyable (or not) is doing this?

Can you realistically visit a city like Boston and get the whole “experience” over the weekend?

Doesn’t mean you won’t ever go back. I think it’s great being able to go out at night Friday, adventure on Saturday and then some more adventure + relax Sunday around the area. Still a new place than where you’re used to which is fun. New restaurants/bars/sights to visit and experience

Yeah used to do weekend trips from NYC to Miami. Cheap flights, usually $150-$200 roundtrip, 3hrs.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

I used to go straight to the airport from the office, head to a city either friends lived or were also visiting. Would drop my stuff off wherever I was staying then right to the bar / restaurant / party everyone was at. Fly back around 3-4pm Sunday and then right back to hating my life Monday morning.

Semi-frequent weekend trips with or to visit friends are what get me through between the longer trips and keep things fresh. Leaving Thursday night if possible and working remote Friday is a game changer for flexibility and to maximize time on both ends.
