What are your favorite kind of movies?
Just saw that Brad Pitt & Leo are confirmed to start filming for a Tarantino directed film coming next year. At the same time, Will Smith just confirmed he just started filming a movie directed by Oscar winning Ang Lee (Life of Pi).
2018 looks like it's gonna be a great year of films (from the consumer standpoint - RIP to theatres in the near-distant future?).
That being said, what are your favorite genres or types of movies?
I enjoy origin stories the most, with some adventure, Sci-Fi, or action. What I prioritize the most, however, is the cinematography, intellectual provocation, and/or setting.
Some of my favorite movies:
- The Dark Knight
- Four Brothers
- Interstellar
- Annihilation
- Django
- Inception
- Casino Royale
- Skyfall
- Ocean's 11
- The Prestige
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- The Imitation Game
- The Godfather
- Rocky
- Logan
- Get Out
- Argo
- The Island
- The Pursuit of Happyness
- Seven Pounds
- Bladerunner 2049
- 300
- Gladiator
- Ex Machina
- End of Watch
- Limitless
- Pan's Labyrinth
- A Shape of Water
- Life of Pi
- Slumdog Millionaire
- Lion
- Jurassic Park: The Lost World
- World War Z
- I Am Legend
The list honestly goes on... that's probably not even a third of my favorite movies.
Who are your favorite directors and films, why? What movies do you look forward to in 2018 and moving forward? If you could direct any one film with an unlimited budget, what kind of film would you produce?
Our list is pretty much identical.
Quentin Tarantino, and Martin Scorsese are my favorite directors. Only film I dislike from Tarantino is Kill Bill, everything about that movie seems silly.
Reservoir Dogs, the plot in general is just pretty badass (intro is all you need). I like how it takes place in one day, and how you get the plot of each character during the film
Casino, classic Mob film. Jewish Gangster outside of the family is a great gambler and runs the Tangiers for the Italian mobs up North but comes in conflict with some badass Southerns and a crazy wife.
Goodfellas, again, classic Mob film. I like how it follows Henry Hill from his childhood all the way up to him coming to the point of getting potentially hit by someone who looked after him his whole life.
Scarface. This is my favorite movie I have, and will probably have watched. A Cuban immigrant coming into the best part of Florida and becoming a cocaine kingpin. I like the vibe of the film being in South Beach. The Mariel Harbor is an interesting story along with the mass emigration from Cuba due to Castro's regime. I like Montana's side of the story, and how he encounters corrupt bankers, politicians, officers, and hint on capitalism.
One thing I can definitely safe that I love about all these films is the diversity of the characters.
@Going Concern"
just a few off the top of my head
None of the Jason Bourne series?
The Jason Bourne series were great. But I refrained from series otherwise I would have listed James Bond and Rush Hour.
Props for 3:10 to Yuma, highly underrated, best western movie of this millenium thus far imo.
3:10 to Yuma both original and remake are great.
Boiler Room was mad homo and should not be next to such classics as Training Day, Bambi, and Dead Presidents..
Bunch of faggie white guys acting hard. One does a line of coke and drops a N bomb in the first 10 min.
Rap music is constantly playing in the background of this movie full of white guys. The only diversity is a fat black female secretary?! Seth quotes the late Notorious B.I.G. WTF! Christopher Wallace must be rolling in his grave.
Ben Afflec is bragging about all his money. He dumps it on a car and has a huge house with nothing in it. Bunch of "BSD ballers" are watching Wall Street on a Friday night with Ben wearing a Trojan hat no homo?
One of the bar scenes they are playing dice. I think this is the only time in history white boys played ghetto dice.
The white jew in the movie calls his white coworkers nigga-rich.
The white two jews are fighting over the fat black secretary. Since when do white guys chase the brown chocolate?
Too many bottles with no models...
And so forth. This movie was just bad all around.
Robin Hood men in Tights Blazing Saddles Porkys
I laughed so hard the first time I watched them in my youth (10-15 yrs) ago
.
Many excellent choices listed above, but Inglorious Basterds was a serious omission if you ask me.
The Marvel movies are actually really awesome in so many ways. The way they created an interconnected universe with their movies similar to the comics they are based on is really interesting.
All of the people who work on the films are really passionate about the source material. It's really heart-warming and great to see the product of passionate people who truly enjoy what they are creating.
I could go on for hours about how much I love the Marvel movies.
Not a lot of new ones added to my list, but this is generally the ones that always come to mind for me:
Inception Shutter Island Skyfall Casino Royale Wolf of Wall Street (sorry but it's entertaining) American Psycho The Departed Requiem for a Dream (but I'll probably never watch it again) Dark Knight
Goldfinger is a good movie but it's so old it doesn't really compete with these.
I like the Jason Bourne movies a lot, but hard for me to remember which of them would be my favorite, and I wouldn't say the whole series is worthy of being on this list.
edit: Catch Me If You Can also a good one
In terms of movies about the crisis- Probably liked Margin Call way better than The Big Short. Surprised no one has mentioned this yet
Some action movies that I loved: Sicario- highly recommend 13 Hours- Benghazi movie with John Krasinski American Sniper Jason Bourne Series Old James Bond- Ones with Bronsnan
Ditto on Sicario (eagerly awaiting sequel). And any film with Benicio Del Toro. Usual Suspects... oldie but goodie.
What is with the lack of animated films? Have you guys abandoned your childhoods? I was actually watching the Pinky and the Brain the other night, such a great show. My favorite director is Christopher Nolan, although the Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Spike Lee, and Scorsese are also favorites. Spike Lee has been washed for a while though. My favorite kind of movies are thrillers. Now on to the list.
I'll stop there, way too many man.
Can't believe I forgot Memento. Such a cool movie.
Absolutely impeccable taste in movies. My list would be similar minus a few and plus a few others.
Watched the Incredibles 2 this past weekend. Twas magical.
In no order
the departed gangs of new york inception no country for old men
Trading Places is pretty good, classic. You should check it out if you haven't yet
Thank You For Smoking.
Couple of movies that come to mind:
I'm also a big fan of cheap action movies like the transporter series or rush hour lol
+ + Brimstone + The Killing of a Sacred Deer + mother! + Wind River + The Hostiles + Atomic Blonde + Polina + The Birth of a Nation + Equity + Cafe Society + Room + The Witch + Live Die Repeat + Gone Girl + Showgirls + The Departed + Annihilation + Molly's Game + Get Out (already named above somewhere) + Leviathan + Equilibrium + I Am Legend + Red Sparrow
Mind if i do a J?
I watch films of different genres. It all depends on mood. Revised the "Shawshank Redemption" yesterday
I like movies about gladiators...
It will take much time if I I make a list of all great movies. But I guess, my favourite one is The Lord of the Rings.
The Shawshank Redemption, Now You See Me, Ocean's Eleven, Dunkirk, Stepmom
Really surprised nobody has mentioned Wes Anderson, big fan of Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise kingdom, otherwise a big fan of Scorsese/Nolan/Tarantino and films mentioned above
