What car do you drive?
I will be starting full-time as an IB associate this summer in a city where I will need a car. I am a car guy and would like to upgrade my car, but don't want to buy something that will make me look pretentious for my role.
What is your current role and what do you drive?
lots of car threads here recently.
What's your budget? What do you want in a car, something fun and sporty or more practical?
Not sure yet honesty. Mainly curious what others drive.
I have thought about getting a sporty suv like an x3m40 or f-pace. But I wouldn’t be against a car either.
Used bmw M4
Analyst in NYC but my car back home is an 2015 Infiniti. Probably should sell it, but Tiffani is my baby and idk if I can get rid of her just yet. If I were still back where I could use a car, I was planning on getting an old American classic. I was looking at a nice Chevy El Camino and Buick Riviera before I moved. Dream car is a 1972 DeTomasso Pantera, but theyre like 70k min so that aint happening soon.
Yo that pantera sound is an otherworldly sound. Very good taste.

Fuck yeah. Its straight sex

What year/model?

2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road. Love it.
I wish I could give you more bananas. The TRD Off Road trim is awesome on the Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner.
Glad I'm not the only one with an offroad vehicle (I spend alot of time in the mountains). But I'm driving the competition... Chevy Colorado ZR2
Kia Stinger GT, cheap as hell but looks sporty enough to impress any girl
Kia Stinger GT, cheap as hell but looks sporty enough to impress any girl
I have never once had a girl impressed by my cars
LMFAO
Get in your Kia and get the fuck outta here!
The Stinger is actually a pretty awesome car, despite being a Kia...
The answer is always Miata. Can you even drive stick bro?
2017 BMW 530i xDrive.
Daily Driver - late 2010s Honda Accord
Weekends - M3 BMW or Jeep Wrangler
Watch out for selection bias here...
What do you mean?
People in finance make a lot of money so they tend to drive flashy cars. So basically a lot of the cars people tell you they drive in this thread are probably expensive and may be out of your budget. If you had just asked random people who didn’t work in just finance, then you’d have more diverse answers. Just go with that makes you comfortable.
2020 G63, matte black, forgiato rims just cuz. Need to get tints
Gawd dayum
Here’s Why the New Mercedes-AMG G63 Is Worth $200,000
by Doug Demuro
It’s not worth 200K but the smiles per miles are def worth.
I love these. if you go to Cannes in summer, there's dozens of Brabus g-wagons lining the streets.
I think the Honda Accord V6 manual coupe is a pretty cool/reliable car.
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId…
Yeah but where is the fun in being average????
Yeah I’d prefer a Lotus Elise over this - it’s like a go kart - really fun to drive.
gotta go for the jeep cheverloet,
Would love a Porsche but probably should wait a few years for that.
At that stage, I’d be thinking Camry Or Accord. Maybe a Lexus if I had to have a prestige car.
Get the simplest car that is reliable. You don’t want to be dealing with issues at all when you’re that busy
If you’re an enthusiast, resist as best you can the urge to buy something showy and hold off buying those cars as long as possible.(I know that advice won’t go over well lol) They’re a headache and drain financially when you want to be focused on wealth accumulation and your career.
this coming from someone who has owned/owns many Italian and English exotics.
Subaru
Honda Accord V6.
I'll drive a Porsche one day, but at the moment I have better things to spend my money on.
2016 Toyota Camry was my first car, and I still use it whenever I go home. Love that thing. Dunno what I’ll want in the future.

said it before I'll say it again. 2016 Mazda 3 hatchback, personally and with bias, I think it's the best car on the market in that price range. It's pretty much a mini SUV, except it handles very well and is fun to drive.
Civic SI sedan. The 6-speed is such a blast to drive, the sedan is practical, and it's been an incredibly reliable car.
E92 M3
2014 Audi R8.
Yes, you have good taste and understand cars that are worth it. Long term and short.
The answer is always Miata. 2016 ND GT in candy-apple red. I've got easy access to SUVs and trucks when the need arises, and I took a train from my place to work back when that was a thing. In my opinion, any guy who can't handle three pedals needs to hand in his man-card. (Yes this includes my brother in law who's 1.3 liter KTM has twice the HP of my Ducati 900, but can only deal with a hand clutch)
If my mother can handle a manual 1980 Alfa Romeo, you can too. Don't make me tell you about my blind grandmother who drove a '67 Stingray with four on the floor to the bank for 20 years for her job as a teller.
Either my BIL is on this forum or somebody is insecure about the fact that they can't drive a manual and threw monkey shit at me.
I think it’s the “Miata” part, chieftain.
2018 audi s3. My first audi and an absolute joy to drive. Drove a manual trans E90 for about 10 years and thought I would miss the manual trans, but I don't at all.
1980s AM General FJ-8C postal van disguised as a creamy ice truck. The gypsies stand no chances! Very nice!
Analyst, got it as a gift for return offer last summer
2019 Audi RS5 sportback, nardo grey, best choice I’ve ever made
Shoulda gone for the ol B8s with the 4.2l. Otherworldly sound. Looking to pick one up after my SA stint
Solid choice. Engine-wise i would go for a 2017 with the 4.2 , but I fell in love with the design of the newer models at the time.
If ur in the NYC metro and interested, I'm selling the RS5. 911 on the way
As a summer analyst? Nice.
Thanks man, didn’t buy it my self obviously.
Usually ankle express or the bus if I feel like spending money.
2020 Subaru Outback Limited XT
I need my car to get me places.
i drive my wife's car cause she doesnt need it anymore and i dont wanna deal with this
Checking a car and finding out about the vehicle history report by vin before buying means ensuring safety for yourself and your passengers. The safest way is to contact the specialists from the website https://epicvin.com/ , who provide auto check services. No matter how well you know about cars, professionals encounter them every day, and therefore almost intuitively will be able to determine if there is a reason to doubt the words of the seller. This will help you make the right choice and buy a good car that will delight you for many years!
If you’re a true car guy with a limited budget, and not just wanting to show off to compensate for your big shorts, drive a relatively recent enthusiast car: any Miata, any VW GTI, BRZ/FRS/Toyota 86, any E36/E40 BMW, 986 Porsche Boxster, a C5-C6 Corvette, any recent Camaro/Mustang, Subaru WRX, Accord V6. Manual Transmission preferred.
I drive a 2001 Porsche Boxster that I bought for $3500 online including shipping costs and do the repair work on it myself.
Depending on your budget the Jeep SRT would be dope if you want an suv
Those are sick but reliability worries me. Chrysler transmissions can be time bombs and buying used would scare me because people beat on those.
Judging by your x3/fpace suggestion im assuming a 40-50k budget
Crossover: CPO SQ5
Full Size Suv: 200 series Land Cruiser
Sedan: F80 M3
Sports Car: 996 Turbo (manual) or 997 Turbo (tiptronic)
997 is pure love.
If not manual, go for a 911 with the PDK. It's lightyears beyond most other dual clutch transmissions. Can't go wrong with the 997 generation they're such quality sports cars.
Analyst working in West LA - grand Cherokee overland. Gas is expensive as fuck but I love this car
Mid 2010's Toyota Avalon. Not as cramped as the other Toyota sedans, decent features, super cheap if bought used (20K), and easily can get 400K+ miles if you take care of it. Best value play on the market IMO.
Tesla mode 3 and Honda S2000. Working on my next car this year.
GMC HD Sierra 3500 Double Cab Diesel
GMC Yukon Denali HD XL
USA! USA! USA! USA!
Houston?
Using my Honda until it explodes then Ill get a nice fucking car lol
Currently a 15 year old c class benz. Handed down to me and going 250k miles SKRONG
I hope it has two doors.
I have a 2007 Honda Pilot lmao
2020 Dodge Ram Laramie Crew Cab 5.7V8
Got a beaten up 2004 Camry. Don’t care I have more in the cash/investments than 95% of dudes out there leasing their C-Class or 2 Series that I see on the road. Feel bad for them lol.
Probably get something really nice late 20s/early 30s when it’ll just be a rounding error for whatever I want to buy.
Lots of good suggestions in here but given your price range I think you're going to have be a little more specific in the type of vehicle you're looking for. You could do anything from a used F150 Platinum to a 987 Porsche / C7 'Vette so quite the range of options
Testarossa
but then i wake up and hop on the 6
I agree
A 2013 Nissan Versa, idgaf
Had a $50k new car. Wrecked it senior year in a DUI. DIdn't get charged, and the insurance covered it, but my parents were pissed and wouldn't let me drive the replacement. I understand that I'm lucky I didn't kill anyone. I won't do it again.
You can always get plenty of car and not look pretentious with American muscle. I am an analyst 1 and am looking into getting a grand Cherokee (although a Challenger or charger would suffice) with a hemi, or ideally a 392 if the opportunity presents itself. They are meannnn
Get something like a subaru impreza hatch, mazda3, or other japanese hatches / wagons. Lexus will be tough to beat on reliability and they'll have good used variety all over the US. Other good options for enthusiasts would be Golf Rs, Macans, most Bimmers. E92 M3 is tempting and they sound demonic.
I'm a car guy too and I drive a stick mazda3 sedan on the west coast and a straight piped 5.0 foxbody mustang on the east coast. The Mazda is perfect for trips along the 101 and I just drive the mustang at home. Probably my next car is going to be a practical wagon from BMW, or maybe a Taycan. It makes sense to reward yourself in this industry once you start earning good comp. I'm planning to get a Huracan or 720s down the line. Will probably get shit for it, but they're not dailies and it only makes sense to spend on our hobbies.
Abarth 595 or Alfa Romeo Giula. Classy, sporty, useful and very chic. Chicks dig it too. Very reliable as well. Keeper and daily driver cars that has the performance of a sports car for less than 50k. I want to get a Giula GTS.
Every automotive journalist and consumer review website would like to speak to you about your reliability comment...
The Italian police force drives them and the majority of Europe too with Fiats/Abarth.
Drove into the office one day in a Porsche my parents bought me... got some strange looks, decided to stick with the subway after that
Fuck what other ppl think bro
Genesis Coupe
Volvo xc40 thru xc90 ... depends on your space requirements
Just get something with good mpg that is reliable for the first couple of years then upgrade to a nice, luxury SUV. Don't focus on sporty until you make enough to splurge on a kitted-out Porsche or Ferrari, trust me it's worth it. But whatever you do throughout your career, never buy and then drive a car nicer than your boss's car to work.
