I recently picked up an M2 Competition. I made a post about debating to get one a while back, and eventually bit the bullet. It's probably the 'douchiest' car I've ever driven, but I really like entry-level luxury sedans, primarily German. I'm not sure if an M2 is 'entry-level' by any capacity, but I figured I'm young enough where I can still rip some gears down 495. I highly recommend

In the past, I've owned an Audi A3 and a BMW 335i - both of them treated me well, and I'm pretty anal about the car-buying experience. I don't mind waiting a couple of months and haggling on seemingly nominal things to save $200 here, $500 there. I think it's a healthy method to adopt, and living below your means will always be something I recommend. If I wanted to, I could buy a Huracan right now, but why would I? I think mixing safety, sportiness, style, and practicality is the go-to.

Granted, the 'practical' aspect may be lost on the M2... but man, does that exhaust sound good!

Hyundai Accent.  Not flashy but its paid off and the money I would've spent on a car note gets invested in the market.

Man, I do not know what to say.

I too, used to cope like you are doing now, but selling my 335i relieved all the stress I had.

Why did you stress about it? Problems?

Really?  I've always been partial to the R62As.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (v8). Perfect for all the outdoorsy stuff I do.

Give me a 5.9 Limited please, and thank you. Just for collectability if anything. The 2013 4WD Grand  drove through a thunderblizzard was fantastic though.

They gave me one while they were fixing my V60. It was like driving a boat. It had like forward and back suspension - not just up and down. You hit the gas and the wheels move forward and then the car sorta follows a half a second behind. Was a weird drive.

I like my Volvo V60 with roof rails a lot. It's a great family car. Sport mode is fun and you can haul a ton of shit and it's supposedly hella safe idk. I have a family so that's all I was after. I would like more room at the driver's seat. I'd get a big SUV. Maybe an XC90 XD. My head hits the ceiling if I raise the seat height, my water bottle hits the ceiling when I drink and it's on the empty side, my knees hit the wall, my shoulders bump shit. I'm gonna black out all the windows and put a subwoofer in the trunk soon. I kinda been running outa fucks and changing up my life lately though and I'm feeling a blacked-out G-Wagon in my future.

I always envisioned you driving a Blacked out G65.

I see a lot of Audis which I think is boring

Audi used to stand for unique cars. Turbo 5 cylinder rally monsters, high revving v8s, twin turbo 6 cylinders with insane tuning potential, they even sold the TT vr6 6 speed in the USA which was the only way we got the 3.2 vr6 with a manual. Now, half their cars are glorified VW Golf Rs on stilts (looking at you fucking hideous audi sq3), and the other half lack any character or soul whatsoever.

i dont really work in finance anymore, i did work in the back office of a pretty big bank for close to 3 years but i am rocking an old civic si with 200k+ on the clock along with a few other project cars (integra gsr that i use for track days and a mk3 supra turbo that needs to be rebuilt)

i am contemplating getting into a 996 or 997 turbo but i think another 2008 is around the corner and am probably going to get out of cars within the next year for awhile until things return to normal...if that ever happens.

yeah man, all this stuff got expensive. i could probably make a profit on these cars and ive had them all for quite sometime now.

integra type R's are going for like 70k+ now on BaT and alot of older hondas which were historically pretty affordable are now pushing $10k+

you used to be able to get nice, okay condition e30 325i's for 5-6k and now they are pushing 20k or so.

the prices on the 996s are starting to drop from what i can see, both for the c4s and turbos.

how many miles are on your 996? is yours a tip or a 6 speed? did you fix the ims bearing?

im honestly contemplating getting a tiptronic because they are actually more reliable than the 6 speeds from what i gather, atleast in the turbos. its  big $$ to fix the issues in the 6 speed

i def think im going to get one but need to make sure ill have ample time to do all the maintenance a 20 yr old car will need.

Get the Porsche if you can afford it, sweet ride. Were you thinking new or used and what color would you get? You can get one a few years old for under $150k. If you’re willing to consider a Carrera you could pretty much get a brand new one under the same price.

In that price range you could also get a brand new BMW M8 for under $130k or under $100k for one a few years old which is pretty compelling at that price point. You could also get a pretty new AMG GT or a S Class Coupe which are sick cars. Note those two models have recently been discontinued.

Honorable mentions to the Tesla but personally it’s not really my vibe. For pure sportiness I’d go Porsche, for practical sportiness I’d go BMW, and for luxury sports cruiser Mercedes.

Having said that I think your conservative stance is sensible but I don’t think we’re gonna see a 2008 level recession. Leasing could also be a decent option if you don’t wanna get locked into ownership.

Having a nice car is just so much fun and it definitely gives you a bit of that “ego boost”. But I think there’s also the practical aspect of them just being a joy to drive and extremely comfortable. It’s one of those things where once you have it you’ll never go back.

I walk everywhere so I guess my vehicle of choice would be dirty All-Star sneakers that are multi-colored. I’ve actually gotten quite a few compliments about them so that’s nice.

One time fee of about 90 bucks and no cost for maintenance.

Dirt cheap salvage Rav4 that I essentially don't drive given I work remotely.  When this thing croaks I have to get something beefier to tow around a boat and maybe a travel trailer so I can work out of more locations.

Get busy living

Any of you live in NYC and have a car? As much as I’d want to buy one, just to have the option of getting out of town for weekends, it seems that parking and insurance make it insanely expensive to have one in the city. Anyone manage to make it work?

2021 BMW 340i in tanzanite blue, full spec, love it. I was gonna buy the latest M3 but i hate the way it looks with that new big grille, so then i thought about the older shape m3, like a 2018 car but the interior felt dated. only thing i dont like about my new car is its AWD not RWD, but it probably is better for me cos i live in the UK and its always raining

Had the q50 rs for awhile, truly the most practical sports sedan out there. Not too flashy, solid power, and very nice interior.

I agree, but that steering feel (or lack therof) was pretty horrendous. One of the worst of the new electric steering systems. I had the q50s as a loaner while my g35 was in for service and I was so excited to get it back.
