What do bankers like small talking about?
At the few networking events I was at I noticed that bankers tend to talk about kinda the same things/hobbies and was wondering what sports, news, etc. to follow in order to socially fit in? Would not knowing about certain sports/topics hurt how I'm perceived socially?
I personally follow a bit of F1 and the European Premier League, but don't play any video games or anything.
Just talk about whatever your interested in and try to learn about what the other person is interested in. My coworkers are into cricket and stuff so I like talking to them about that since they are passionate about it even tho I don’t follow it.
I don’t follow sports other than CFB and NCAAB but I’m not gonna spend my free time learning about something I don’t care about.
a bunch of stuff:
- the transactions that they are working on
- most useful excel shortcuts
- how to better communicate with the staffer
- the performance of the bank's stock that day
- whether or not the CEO is on track to reach his KPIs
Poop, obviously
Shit even
What about piss?

so many bankers at my office talk about golf
Cool it with the antisemitic remarks…
Every banker I’ve spoken to talked about stocks, rent, random news, and golf….
Man, I feel you, I used to be so at small talk, but it's really simple. Just listen and ask questions. Like, he casually mentions Wimbledon, okay, ask him if he plays tennis himself (he will probably say that he used to but doesn't have the time anymore) and bam! you have a conversation going from there.
