what if i hate working altogether

i have a decent job and make decent money and can pivot to whatever i want, but the fact is that i hate the principle of having to work. maybe the idea of working for myself is slightly better than to have to work for others, but i would still much rather be on a beach somewhere, be rich and relax. anyone else w this problem? alternatively, anyone with a solution on how to get rid of this mentality?FYR i’m quite young, 24F

You and about 99% of the working world hates working.  Best advice,  work hard early and find some balance,  then when you have a cushy couple million in the bank at age 30 you can semi retire and maybe work 3 days a week.  Otherwise you may need to find a way to get job that has you working part time and then you can just be poor and not work that hard.

Couple million by 30? lmao what. Not possible unless you strike gold via starting your own business.

Now by 40 most can achieve some degree of financial independence

24F?

Go find the nearest medical school or residency program and start batting your eye lashes, you will be ok soon enough

You have to go to med school before residency and all of this is hard work. Even studying for the MCAT is harder than any other entrance exam. Then MD admissions is probably more competitive than any other program.

I don't think MonkeyNoise was actually advising her to apply to med school or residency....

Right there with ya. Figure out what kind of lifestyle you want in 10 years, 20 years etc and work for that sole reason. Also find a job/comp that supports it. -If you don't want a 6 million dollar house in the Hamptons don't bust your brains out working 80 hours a week.

Controversial

lmaoo the fact that women think their highest calling is working is hilarious.

A. They absolutely add 0 value compared to men, they have no skills which are valuable in the workforce, they most likely decrease value

B. It doesn't make sense from an efficiency POV for both women and men to work and then both women and men to raise the child, clean the house etc

C. Women are not happier working than raising children and any woman that thinks that working>raising a literal human is retarded. The fact that we got to this point is the biggest corporate psy op

You're publicly a sexist?

Maybe women would be happier raising children vs working IF they find the right husband. But to say they add NO value at work is insane. Actually did you know if you look at IQ women have the higher average IQ. I will say men are the outliers on both sides though so odds are the highest IQ on the planet is a man and the lowest IQ is likely Patric Basedman.

if working isn't an option, maybe you better rush to hit rich guys and become a stay-home-Queen before you loose your looks. Otherwise, welcome to men's world where work is a non-negotiable

Ahh, the plight of the young, educated, employed female. "things are really good for me but like it would be great if mommy and daddy had a trust fund so I could just like chill all the time". If you're looking to be rich and relax, better start hitting up dudes with yachts because that's the quickest path for a 24 year old female.

Look, it would be great to be rich and be able to do whatever I want but it's simply not realistic. You want to know how I got rid of that mentality? I grew up.

You sound like the kind of person who could be interested in FIRE (financially independent retire early). Although most people don’t want to retire early, having the OPTION to is what most people chase. Optionality allows you to take a sabbatical when you want, be picky with the freelancing work you do want to take on, and work as much as you feel like it!

I love to work. I dislike taking orders from others and limiting my self direction by being a cog in a machine. Back to your situation, I'd just start dating a few years older and try to lock something down. Good luck
