What is a Cloud Solutions Architect? How prestigious is it and what are exit ops?
Trying to figure out more about what these guys do. What are the similarities or differences between them and Big 4 tech consulting groups? Is it viewed in any kind of prestigious way? How likely can one lateral into consulting as a Solutions Architect?
Solution architects sit at a higher level than your standard tech consultant. They _usually_ design the structure of large scale software projects (e.g. they might architect a retail banking system, figuring out all the relationships between the components that make up the overall system). It's a buzzwordy (and boring) job, usually done by techie guys who move into management later on.
If you're a cloud architect with AWS/Azure/GCP certs your exit opps are pretty much every company that requires a solutions architect.
Thank you for the insight. I’ve been told sometimes the position is heavily dependent on commissions that can be more volatile than banking bonus’s, so a bad year for a group could really negatively impact someone. Is there something similar which is more heavy on larger base vs bonus? Are there Solutions Architect positions that are structured like banking comp where there are both larger base and bonuses or is it different?
