What will you do with your free time? (Corona Virus Imposed)
As it looks like we're set up to either all work from home and/or getting quarantined we're destined for some free time. What do you plan on doing during it? Could also use this thread for suggestions. My agenda below.
- Catching up on shows
- Reading
- Maybe I'll actually start that coding class I've been putting off
- Try to create better work out habits
- Sleep
- Video Games
For those not taking it serious and going out (in a non-necessity based way), I hope you reevaluate the potential negative impact you're having.
I'm not sure what I plan to do. Right now, I'm still looking at what's going to happen with gym access. That's going to be the big question as I'd need to figure out how to adjust my routine to compensate for the lack of gym facilities. Other than that, when it comes to being indoors, Netflix/D+/Hulu, Reading, video games, trying to teach myself photography. When it comes to being outside (because you will go stir crazy if you stay inside all day), I'm going to go and hike a lot more, run, and try and be active. I want to do things that I can do on my own without putting myself in harms way of this thing as much as possible.
Agreed on the stir crazy. Figuring out a way to go outside but somewhat stay away from people will be tricky for people in an urban environment.
Seeing as they've closed all the gyms down, I'm thinking morning of taking a morning run every day (on top of whatever else I have to do on the lifitng side with a makeshift gym from whatever I have lying aroudn at home) will at least get me outside and get fresh air into my lungs.
Learn programming even more deeply, getting into frameworks, backend (server side), and web authentication. Not in one week (obviously).
Also am going to get married provided quarantine doesn’t prevent that. Genuinely something I’m concerned about.
Did you have to make up projects to use your programs? Congrats, will you have a small ceremony and large event later? Not even sure how you can plan that with so many moving parts for a normal wedding let alone right now..
I have structure from a program to learn how to code. I just started it and then we shifted to remote. Thankfully the community is great and supportive and we’re all working together.
Thanks. Immediate family only ceremony. Reception TBD. My concern is the ceremony itself, being that rumors of LA full on quarantine occurring keep circulating. We shall see
Congrats on the wedding. We all look forward to the blanket WSO invite.
What are you using to learn programming? What applications are you using it for?
Haha yeah I’ll send up a Zoom link and reveal my identity. It’s next week (for now)
Also, I’m in a programming bootcamp (controversial choice but this one has really fantastic results). Happy to talk more about it via PM.
You and me both. Summer is starting to look sketchy and I owe a deposit this week.
Good luck man.
If I recall correctly, your wedding is pretty big. I’d postpone personally. Those few months you’ll forget, but a shutdown wedding you’d worry about. Imo. Do you though. Interested to hear your decision

Thanks - any recommendations?
I work in tech, so no more banking hours. Usual 45-50 hours have dropped down to probably 25-30 it looks like. So to fill the gap: Spending 15 hours a week on the bike, 3 hours lifting, and then 5 hours of focussed reading on weekdays.
Are you finding that you only ever needed 25-30 hours to get your stuff done or do you have less work?
Less work; had 40-45 hours of work. Keep in mind my boss actually does not give a shit when I'm in the office so face time is non-existent. Hence, 40 honest hours of cranking work will have me more tired than 50 hours half chilling at the office.
Books, podcasts, and video games.
Also a lot of pushups, planks, etc. since I'm not going to the gym.
CRE, seeing as all gyms are now closed, yeah... I guess I'm with you in the pushups, planks, etc. boat. Gonna have to figure out how to make certain things work though. .
I think I have one of those "as seen on TV" doorframe pullup bars somewhere. Bet I can do some pullups and leg raises with that. Definitely can do biceps and triceps by putting heavy shit into fabric grocery bags.
Going to be a full-on prison workout.
Homegym master race checking in.
I'm definitely jealous
Going to study more for the CFA, but really don't feel like doing that.
I am a little too distracted by plunging markets to think about a new hobby. I am sure business will slow down and I will be looking for things to do, though.
Sadly not working from home yet. I want to keep studying for the CFP and get into the gym more. It is crazy how much more motivated I am to go to the gym whenever I'm not working. Had a week off awhile ago in between job transitions and went to the gym every day. Started work, and go twice a week if I'm lucky which I'm not happy about.
New exercise routine ill be jogging and P90X. I am thinking of doing a modified plan of my old marathon training from a few years ago (maybe I will be in marathon shape in 4 months?), run three times/week and then do P90X Yoga once a week (it will kick your ass).
I picked up the book World War Z, it's pretty timely considering (it's not really about zombies, more about how unprepared we are for a global pandemic, and human nature and all that), and it is nothing like the crappy movie with Brad Pitt.
One of my favorite books in general. That movie sucked ass.
Contagion with Matt Damon, on the other hand, is solid.
The only change in public accounting is that I get to work from home. No difference in hours or expectations. Especially since it's busy season.
I will be applying harder for the jobs
I'm 100% that guy that only works out so I can eat excessively. Now that the working out component is gone, I think I'll get really fat.
