For Trump's VP I would most expect either Vivek or Kristi Noem.

I think there's a non-zero chance that Biden somehow pulls out of the race at the last minute and someone like Newsom steps in but no idea who would be VP. I think Kamala is done for, she's one of the most disliked Democrats even within their own party but no one will say it publicly because of the race + woman card.

I think Vivek would be a fun VP. I like his intellect, style, and energy. Then it would probably be Vivek vs Haley vs DeSantis for 2028 POTUS.

Vivek does really well with younger voters but just doesn't have the name recognition yet. That could change over the next 4 years but I don't see him as being able to garner the support. That said, he's my favorite candidate on the policy front.

Gotta remember the Republican party is not a monolith anymore, a lot of people who support Trump will on principle not support folks like DeSantis or Haley going forward.

DeSantis poisoned a lot of goodwill I don't think he has a shot. If he had just waited his turn he would've but not now. He's been memed to death in the eyes of average Republicans and his weak positions on international policy did not resonate. He had some good stuff going with the culture war issues but that's not enough to go the distance.

Haley is not half as popular as she seems, in ALL of the open primaries she's gotten anywhere from 20-40%+ of her support from Democrats crossing the aisles. She's been getting support from big Democrat donors. She's just a younger, dumber Hilary Clinton with an R next to her name and will never have widespread popular support. Especially after the embarrassment of a campaign she's running while losing in every state primary by double digits.

There is zero chance Biden pulls out of the race.

Only way a replacement even comes up is if he literally dies (which given the age of both Trump and Biden, that isn't exactly a joke)

Agree on Kamala not having much of a national future, but you're memeing if you think Democrats don't acknowledge that. She did terribly in the primaries back in 2020 and gets criticized constantly for being a "cop."

Vivek is clearly the better candidate but I think Trump will pick Noem to attract female voters which is more desirable to him than a trump 2.0 VP who doesn't really add anything different to the ticket.

this is what trump should do. really a shame bc most voters just see a white women and will then feel better about voting for trump lol. Across all parties, Vivek is the strongest but identity politics is the biggest winner

I need to see a Vivek / Kamala debate

Yoooo brooo you’re right that would be hilarious. Vivek would crush her and she would just do that nervous cackle. A must see.

My money is on Tim Scott. Ramaswamy has proved loyal which Trump values, but Scott just brings some portion of the black vote

Though on second thought -- not too sure how much of that vote he brings. SC will vote for Trump anyway. Are there any Hispanic politicians with big name recognition in swing states? That would be ideal for Trump since Hispanics as a block are heavily moving Republican (black vote is only modestly moving more Republican). Hispanic female with name recognition and ideally in a swing state would be a killer move

Tim Scott is unfortunately viewed by many liberals/leftist voters in the same light as Larry Elder i.e. "the Black face of white supremacy". I don't think adding him to the ticket really accomplishes anything given Trump was already the best polling Republican with blacks in decades in 2020. If social media is anything to go off of that seems to have grown with how pissed many are seeing what's being done with the criminal aliens invading the country receiving housing, food, and cash stipends for nothing. His weakest demographic is still older white women which is why I think a female VP like Kristi would make the most sense.

Marjorie Taylor Greene would be ideal.  I would look forward to learning more about Jewish space lasers.

She is either an attention seeker, a  narcissist or has an impairment of some kind.   She and Trump are perfect for each other.  I would not be surprised if Trump selects her as his VP even though she would be Sarah Palin of the 2024 election.

I guess some of you guys did not get what you had hoped for from last night.  He sounded like like an old guy who does not speak very well, which is true but he did not exhibit any material signs of dementia or significant cognitive decline.

Yeah no, I lost count after the 30th gaff/slurring of words. At least it's amusing to see how unhinged you people get every time an election year comes around and just detach from reality.

Projection at its finest.  He has always had a speech impediment and with age these things get worse. Even some republican strategists said he did a very good job last night.  Republicans set the bar at dementia, which is probably not a very good approach.  Not that  it was surprising but republicans had their asses glued to their chairs even when Biden was talking about Ukraine and Putin.  It is embarrassing. The only time they got up was when Biden highlighted that black woman for something civil rights related. They wanted to show they are not a bunch racists.

I didn’t catch the speech, but got what I wanted out of it:

Virginia's governor Glenn Youngkin.

If Youngkin is smart, he won't go anywhere near that. Youngkin is a future Republican presidential candidate. He doesn't need to be associated with either a losing Trump campaign or controversial Trump presidency.

Personally I agree. I think he has to play his cards a bit smarter in the mid term before he'll run for the big one, but I think he has a solid chance. When he campaigned in VA, though he did associate with Trump initially, his campaign later did a great job of distancing themselves from Trump and giving him a more professional image. It would be great to see that at the national level in the future.

Biden did very well.  I saw with my own eyes his mind is sharp, which was a contrast to media reports.

I have some respect for James Lankford (R) for trying to pass a bipartisan border bill.  Him mouthing “that’s true” when the R’s were booing, was made for tv.

I donated after the speech and apparently the two hours after the SOTU, broke some fundraising records.

The debates are going to be entertaining.

I watched the entire state of the union and I rarely watch them but I wanted to see if Biden showed signs of cognitive decline, as the WSO medical staff has claimed on numerous occasions.  He surpassed my expectations and those of just about any honest person who is not a political hack.  It will be interesting to see how Trump and republicans market Trump. I think the campaign focused on dementia is pretty much done.  They need a plan B.

I’m seeing more comments on FoxNews about how they were better off financially four years ago than today.  They are trying to invoke the common persons’ feeling of relative prosperity.  Nevermind that (global) inflation, hourly worker/blue collar jobs boom (low unemployment and wage inflation), even a high stock market, has its complexities. Comparing grocery prices from 2019 vs 2024 is a barometer and a simple one for the masses.  I think that’s the biggest strategy beyond culture wars and border.

Newsom will for sure run for President, according to those who know him.  He’s known as a “policy wonk” with a very good memory for details.  He didn’t come from a rich family (dad was a judge) but hung around rich people.  The demonizing of California and particularly San Francisco (where I live now) in some media is a long term psych-ops to taint this guy.

Not much to add, but I actually know Vivek personally through college and we used to actually be pretty good friends back in the day both while we were students and even several years after graduation (we would get together for lunch on a reasonably regular basis until around 2015-16) but kind of lost touch afterwards. Around this time he started becoming, for lack of a better word, "inaccessible" due to his business really taking off and him becoming somewhat of a public figure (e.g. being on the cover of business magazines). Fwiw, I still have his number saved in my contacts

I bet some of our old mutual friends from back in the day are ingratiating themselves with him on the off chance that if he becomes president in the future, they can get an ambassadorship or some other kind of sinecure... kind of gross if you think about it...
