Not sure why you guys think what she's saying is so crazy. I think we can all acknowledge that the historical significance of certain events depends on which side of history your ancestry falls on.

Since we are in America, all Americans should be on the side of American holidays. This is the USA, we celebrate holidays that are significant to this country. You don't have to like it, but you should respect it.

Completely agree. I would definitely respect any traditions anyone may have in a country I am in, no matter how arcane or whatever.

Seriously to debate the value or legitimacy of a holiday is ridiculous. Some are never happy. That makes me sad.

Imagine if America was conquered by some invading country and countless Americans were massacred in the process. I'm sure the surviving Americans wouldn't be too thrilled to celebrate the date commemorating the conquest.

We celebrate the end of WWII, even though American firebombed and nuked civilians cities. Should we stop celebrating that?

Get the fuck real. People fight and people die. I know exactly what Columbus did and I still think it is a great holiday.

This is the problem with America. We allow little bitches to derail everything.

I hope some kids parents sue the school. This is why Americans are dumb. We allow bleeding heart l*berals (it is a swear word) to ruin what should be a basic education.

You are right, but they would respectfully celebrate it. And after 200 years they would quit fucking bitching.

Gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet.

Or be respectfully indifferent to it.

Totally unrelated, I'm a bit miffed at the response of members of this board lately to unbiased, factual responses in threads asking for the opinion of certified users and those who work in the industry... I generally like to remain fairly objective and avoid controversial / confrontational exchanges on this forum cuz I don't like getting "shit on" but i literally just increased my shit total by like 50% due to the thread below, when I should have gotten SBs for giving factual advice... Shit like that creates a disincentive for me to post...

I gave you some SBs so chill. Just like we all give to ANT once in a while after the storms of shit he takes on, with his extremish but semi correct views. Remember the top users have the most points to give SBs/Shit to at the end of the day, so in the long-run you will be fine.

unless you are italian american or have ancestors named red cloud or sitting bull i can't see how anyone can be getting worked up about this

fyi, columbus day is a state holiday in NJ but not in CA. guess why.

ANTYou would think that Mexicans would want to celebrate a Catholic hero's holiday.

indian blood trumps white man's religion

and besides, mexican intellectuals, from the purest indian to the white blond/blue-eyes still consider the american SW to be the lost territories

Ok, i see her twisted logic on Columbus day and TG, but what the f is her beef with Halloween?

More is good, all is better

Yeah well with the amount of illegal immigration going on and the lack of desire to assimilate, they might be taking it back.

Time to bring on the fence and mandatory English speaking high school. Sad, but Alabama is really a poster child for what other states should be doing.

Hopefully a Republican President will make hiring illegal immigrants a serious penalty.

don't worry, the fecundity of the bronze continent will assure that america looks the way it did in 1300

speaking of defunct holidays: who has ever heard of virginia dare's birthday?

none of you. yeah i thought so.

yep, get used to aymara and quecha. those guys walked over on their feet. all the rest of us came on a ship of some kind. any room in the old country for us?

@Ivote - I agree. I think you will see a growing anger and a push to actually enforce the laws on the books. Any company employing illegal immigrants should be shut down. Herman Cain just said he supported an electrified fence.

Much cheaper to use claymores.
