Word/Excel/PowerPoint

How long did it take you to become good at word/excel/powerpoint? The reason I ask is because it is T-3 months until start my internships and want to craft/master my skills so that I can hit the desk running.

It's not a matter of time, when you do it, you need to do it right. Rule #1: Never touch your mouse. Rule #2: Never forget Rule #1. If there is anything you need to do on windows, it can be done without the mouse. The only thing that I think is remarkably less efficient is navigating webpages.

I did a write-up on this a little while back, it can be broadly applied to Excel as well. I'm not too sure if there's anything significant to improve upon with Word.

Here are my two cents on PPT skills improvement:

(1)   Go to Udemy and take a crash course in PPT. In here, sit through videos to show you what you don't know you don't know - it'll expand your universe of understanding with PPT.

(2)   Go to Case Libraries for Universities and case studies/available PPTs by consulting firms (my go to is the Compenhagen Business School 24 Hour Case Competition Case Library) - you will see expertly drafted PPTs all in different styles in varying degrees of depth. This will give you an understanding of what professional PPTs look like.

(3)  Give yourself long-form assignments. If it's IB, build a CIM from scratch, if it's Consulting, build a case study from scratch. Do this a few times from the research gathering, analytics to the PPT design. You'll learn how to apply the two above and also find your own preferences
