Your Finance Brother Tiktok
This guy constantly bashes IB and talks about how it's minimum wage (obv not true). He reminds me of the type of guy that is absolute dead weight on a deal and says oh are you guys talking about sports ball when a sports discussion comes up. Maybe I'm going too hard on him.
It definitely seems like some/a lot of his content is exaggerated for views or to generate outrage in the comments, but it is also possible that he simply worked in a tough group with an awful culture.
He does consistently mention that he does not regret doing banking. If anything I think he is allowing people to see the job for what it is, which is refreshing given the consistent and inaccurate fetishisation of careers in IB/PE on social media.
i take your point though.
Maybe it’s where I ended up but I feel like most people around me shit on IB. If I was to shit on their careers it would be snobby tho so I feel like that’s kinda telling. Just seems like a bunch of cope.
There are some IB tiktok creators that speak about the merits of the experience rather than bashing it, but you just have to remember most people hate “big bad Wall Street”, so doomer content about the absolute worst parts of the experience will always be the most popular. Gives people justification to shit on an otherwise very lucrative and potentially fulfilling career path because it’s really hard and most people couldn’t last as an analyst if they tried
Well yeah. Objectively speaking, it's a shit job. It's also a great job. You have probably the most extreme hours, some of the most extreme stress, and some of the most draining work out there. You also have some of the highest paying, some of the best people and connections, and some of the best opportunities out there. It's not a role with much "in between" so to say, meaning there's no moderate part of IB. It's either shit or amazing at all times. That's why you have people saying they hated it and would do it over again.
Sounds like something Finance Bro would say… and he would be on WSO…
he gears his content towards clueless females who aren't in the industry
Chiming in as someone out of touch in their 30s: I am truly baffled by 1) “influencers” in general, and 2) how it has seeped into the professional world, especially finance.
I guarantee you all would have happier and more productive lives if you didn’t know who any of these weirdos were.
yeah, I am surprised to because he still works in finance, I always wanted to make a social media page for finance because I really loved making content growing up but it probably will hurt future job prospects right
Depends on the type of content. If its educational and you don't bash on your employer / don't share proprietary information, it probably wouldn't have any effect. I could be wrong though. Honestly, if I was an influencer posting about finance content and a job told me they wouldn't take me because I was posting finance content, I would feel like I dodged a bullet by not getting the job.
Stories seem exaggerated. Does anyone know his actual name or the companies he's worked at?
DB and Veritas I heard. So maybe some of the stories are true if he actually was at Veritas haha.
😂😂😂😂
ALL THE INFLUENCERS WANT IS VIEWS.
I bet most of his stories are made up.
I mean it is minimum wage. In your analyst years it's pretty shit wages if you break it down by the hours.
Inflation in the western hemisphere hasn't helped matters too
What r ur assumptions that lead you to min wage. I’m at around 50-60 and hour
Pre-COVID if you made $150k as an AN1 (fairly common) and did 90hr x 52wk but gave yourself 1.5x credit for the hours over 40hr as if you were an hourly employee, and so (40 + 50*1.5) x 52 = 5,980 paid hours, you'd come out to $25/hr in NYC
If you're 50-60 hours in banking, get ready for a RIF
