Even the Yankee’s Hate BofA

Looks like previous talks of a sponsorship deal between Bank of America and the NY Yankee’s have officially ended. Although the media’s spin on it makes it sound like it was BofA’s choice to back out, alluding to the flack that Citigroup faced about spending $400 million to slap their name on the side of the new Mets stadium (while they were gladly taking handouts from the government).

The BofA/Yankee deal is rumored to have been in the same range as the $20 million a year Citi/Mets fiasco. I’m sure that would have gone over like a lead balloon with the unfortunate 35,000 Bank of America and Merrill employees that are slated to get canned over the next few years.

Honestly, I think it’s more likely that the Yanks (wisely) don’t want to jump onto a burning ship. But I think they’d have made a beautiful team. For example, their employees have to wear protection to come to work – cups for the Yanks and shields for the BofA folks, so as to avoid being stabbed in the back by management. They both continue to fall disappointingly short of achieving anything these days. One has A-Rod and the other has A-Dick (or is it A-Ken?). And overall, America loves to hate them.

Either way, looks like it’s a partnership we’re not going to see come to fruition, at least any time soon.
