How to make a little extra cash in NYC ?

Any ideas ? I'm not looking for $5,000 but an extra $2K or even $1K would help.

I don't have any web development experience so not sure I could get a website up and running, let alone something profitable.

Exactly what drstrangelove said. What skills do you have? What are your current hours like? Are you physically in shape? Answering a couple of these questions can really provide you with some answers...

If your hours are somewhat reasonable, you can bartend, but prior restaurant experience may be needed, as bartending is not the easiest job to get.

If you are physically in shape, you can help move around peoples crap on the weekends. I used to do this when I was younger and would make a couple hundred bucks each time.

Tutoring is a good idea...

There are really endless possibilities...

You could whore yourself out to 200 fat chicks at $10 a pop, or 2 really fat chicks at $1k a pop.

Reality hits you hard, bro...

Go on to craigslist. Go to the free section. Find shit that is free and which is in good condition (couches, coffee tables etc.) and go and pick them up. Store them at your place while trying to resell them on craigslist. Make 100-200 a pop. Example: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/fuo/2560213959.html Pretty solid table. http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/zip/2561387081.html Pretty nice couch. Best times when students are leaving. You can even just drive around their dorms and pick up stuff theyre getting rid of (no, not stuff theyre taking with them).

Buy a couple cases of arizona iced tea. Get them for ~20 for a 24 pack, bring to local places (beaches, parks) and sell for $2 each.

Go on craigslist. Go to jobs section. Type in "brand ambassador." These are short term positions (think 1-2 days), and can be done if you have free time on the weekends. I did this in college sometimes. Great perks as well - I did one early in the summer while waiting for a job to start, 5 days passing out snapple on the street. Fun, young crowd, lots of down time, and at the end there was so much left I ended up packing my car with ~25 cases of the stuff for free. Hilarious. If youre really enterprising, you could sell these to stores, or on your own. I just drank about 4 cases then started giving them away because I couldn't drink any more.

Look on craigslist on the gigs section for studies. Many of them are brief (a couple hours) and pay off ~50-200. There are studies for everything. Case in point, http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/crg/2556017181.html

Do a sleep study. Can find these on craigslist, or at local teaching hospitals or universities. These range from one to 14 days, and go up to $4000.

Start your own business. It is a lot easier than it sounds. Follow James Altucher's route. http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2011/01/how-i-screwed-yasser-arafat-out-of… http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2011/04/the-easiest-way-to-succeed-as-an-e…

Sell your sperm/eggs.

Get money from a loan shark. Loans from them aren't generally legally enforcable.

Those are eight options that are readily available and which require little prep/time commitment (aside from starting your own business, though if its a website, it could still get to the point of requiring relatively little time).

Do not do this. I know a dude who does loan sharking and I would not cross this dude. The guys who work at a restaurant he owns are scared of him too, and they are usually ex-cons. Dude is like 65 but plays golf with me and my dad with a loaded shotgun in his bag. One time we saw him go to the side of the road and a pickup truck pulled up and just gave him a big bag of money. Yeah...I wouldn't fuck with loan sharks. Unless u have gills or are bulletproof.

Thanks a lot Seabird !! Exactly what I was looking for.

As for my skills, I have a 760 on the GMAT, so tutoring Prospective MBA students is an option but I'm not sure I want to go through some sort of training program at a test prep company.

Besides that, I did some roofing during a summer in college. I'm in great shape physically so helping people move sounds like a good gig.

Language skills are minimal, just a little bit of Spanish.

With a 760 GMAT you meet at least part of the minimum requirements to teach for Manhattan GMAT. If you have prior teaching/tutoring experience you have a good shot at working there. They require a commitment of 3 hours a week and pay $100/hour (and they have a signing bonus of a few thousand). Might want to look into that....
