New Business Generation Strategies for Commercial Banking/Treasury

I work in the transactions division of a Mid-Tier bank, and while my partnership with the RMs remains strong, my boss is expecting us to start generating our own accounts and then loop in the bank to open commercial checking/saving accounts. He said in our group we have been to reliant on our RM relationships to feed us and self business generation has been very low.

Our "soft" target accounts are businesses with annual revenue of $5MM - $50MM. We can sell higher, but anything higher than $100MM would require a specialist to step in.

How do you guys in Commercial and Treasury source your own deals? They never really taught us how to do that. I think it is because commercial account growth has been minimal this year and they want us to do our own thing.
