Reinsurance industry (reinsurance broker)
Hey, I'm new to this website. I am currently a junior at a non-target and was wondering if anyone knew about the insurance industry, specifically reinsurance.
I was looking at major reinsurance companies and wanted to see where you start out after college and what are the best positions to start out in (underwriter?). Also am interest in hearing about lifestyle, hours, pay, and job security.
Does anyone work in the industry/ have the low-down? Thanks in advance
Reinsurance brokerage - heard Guy Carpenter (sister company of Marsh, the insurance broker) is good at this, apparently really good hours though very 'distinct' culture. Depends on a lot depending on geography; in shallow insurance markets, local insurers are just glorified reinsurance brokers as they pass off the risk.
Bump does anyone know more info?
ahhh does anybody on WSO know more about this?
Aon Benfield, Guy Carpenter and one other I can't remember are the top/largest reinsurance firms. I know there can be good money in it for the upper level people, don't know much else.
Thanks for the insight. Would you or anyone else know how much money were talking, especially early on? I'm assuming not banking levels.
How is the prospective in finance if I start off a job at a reinsurance company (Originally Posted: 04/09/2015)
Dear everyone in the WSO Monkey troop,
I graduated from a an International Business degree majoring in finance & accounting in Finland. Previously I did my intership in an advisory group in a tax haven island for 6 months. Now I decided to come back to my home country (Vietnam) to work for a year & study for CFA level 1 before moving to pursue a career in the US. I got a job at the best reinsurance company in VN but at first, instead of assigning me as an underwriter, they put me in internal control & compliance which I'm not too fond of.
I wonder if anyone here has experiences in this field and how's the job prospect in the US for me if I pass my CFA level 1 and have one year experiences in reinsurance here, how's the career chance & prospect might be there for me in the US?
Thank you all so much in advance! It would really have a huge impact in my career decision (cos at the moment I got some attractive offers but then I have to change the field to business development)
Cheers,
Ngan
