2025 PE Associate Roles

Current second year (TMT M&A shop) looking to recruit for PE associate role for this upcoming summer. Know ship has sailed on on-cycle and most of off-cyle. Have been getting crushed so haven't had time to recruit.

Anyone have insight on whether shops will pick up with another round of off-cycle in January / new year? Obviously know it will be more limited but wondering if anyone knows of any firms that A) will pick up recruiting in the new year / B) likelihood of this. Know it also depends on how much they've filled their class but interested in asking this group. For context - looking in the Northeast, either Boston or NYC.

Depending on what you're looking for, I would recommend either focusing your efforts on 2026 roles or targeting LMM PE / growth equity roles for better use of your time.

All the high-quality NY UMM/MFs had filled basically the entirety of their 2025 associate classes as well as most of their 2026 associate at this point. However, there should still be a handful of LMM PE, growth equity, private credit, and FoF roles with a 2025 start date, especially in T2/3 cities, if you're open to those types of roles.

Got it - this is helpful insight. Since I'm an A2 my contract is up in July so would need to focus on 2025 opps. Do you have any insight into Boston MM shops?

Based on the volume of PE opps I have been receiving in my inbox and seeing on linkedin, feels like you can get something. Just make sure your interviewing and story is teed up
