A bit nervous about my new Analyst Role at a top PE firm

Hello everyone, I'm libs, a new Investment Analyst at a top PE firm. I'm excited to join the industry and learn from experienced professionals but I'm facing a tiny hurdle - my own nerves.

Despite reading through the role and responsibilities multiple times and feeling confident in my skills, I can't shake off the feeling of apprehension. Has anyone else experienced similar nerves when starting a new job, especially in a high-pressure field like private equity? Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm usually in favour of self-awareness and humility, but it shouldn't swing too far the other way either.

You passed all of the tests and interviews, and have all of the academic credentials that your new employer is looking for. Maybe you have some reason to doubt their judgment or application process, but unless this is really well-grounded, you haven't (yet) earned to right to second guess their rigour or judgment. So trust it - which means trust in yourself.

With that, and this comes from someone who had really low self-confidence at the outset of his career, just perform to the best of your ability. With time (and reps), your confidence will come to you as the role becomes more familiar (just like when you move to a new place, it only begins to feel like "home" after a month or two). This sort of sounds like "fake it till you make it" and it is - they think you're capable so believe it on that basis if nothing else and the confidence in yourself will come with time.

Congratulations on the new role!

You're right, I do need to trust myself and my abilities. I've worked hard to get to this point, and it's time to own it. Appreciate the reminder that confidence comes with time and experience. Thanks for the wise words, and I'm definitely keeping the "fake it till you make it " in mind.
