Apax (NYC)

Latest views on Apax. Whats the culture like at the associate/sr associate level? How does exposure compare across 3 different verticals within the global buyout strategy? (Tech, services, internet)

services and tech are quite tough people often leave before their 2 year is done, and their services team is killing it. digital growth and consumer are quite chill for a large cap - the type you get to host parties during the weekend. tech promotion is hard, consumer promotion is the easiest they just promoted all their VPs to Principal, but also lost 2 Partners within the past year.

Not the guy you're replying to but my two cents as I had a roommate at Apax:

  • You're right about consumer being chill for large cap. Widely considered the best team to be on at Apax hours + mentorship + overall experience wise
  • Roommate was on buyout team and said Apax Digital was the sweatiest "growth" fund on the street (more like growth / middle market buyout). They answer to the same IC so do same amount of work as buyout on deals, but are higher velocity and expected to source. Do not think your assertion on it being a chiller group is true
  • Tech / services also notoriously sweaty

Varies by team a lot. Services is sweaty but good track record around career development so many VP/principals came up as associates. Tech is old school boys club (almost entire team changed a few years ago) and work hard play hard. Consumer is mix of consumer and internet and generally considered more chill.
