Ardian Private Equity (Previous PE ARM of AXA)
Can someone shed some light on Ardian, apparently it's a $71BN fund and I have never heard of them until an 3rd year analyst on my team left to join them as a investment manager? Is it consider a MM or MF? What's culture and pay like at the firm?
Not a $71b fund, $71b AUM.
Never head of them, seem to be more fund of funds. The non-coinvest direct investing would probably be classified as MM, though $9b under management (for direct investing) is no small number. You can probably find more information online about the vintage and fund size that comprise the $9b.
Was just on their website and found updated numbers: $90b AUM, thereof $16b in direct investments and currently raising a new $7b buyout fund on top of that.
Please tell me you are not in EMEA ...
He is based out of the US - Chicago according to some of its past posts.
Pretty good shop... Believed they raised the biggest infra fund in 2018, 6+bn.
They tend to do quite few cool deals in the MM/UMM space. Often buying firms in the €500mm-1bn range. They have different strategies withing their PE such as buyout - based out of London mainly, targeting the big deals; growth and expansion based in Frankfurt and Paris(?); and LMM in France out of Paris. People tend to stick long term therefore I am assuming pay is decent.
PM for more infos.
Ardian pay is pretty good, solid group overall (they have direct and also secondaries + co investment) as it was their previous strategy), They are quite active GPs, they do know their assets well and really add value holding them.
Taking an A3 to be investment manager there he must have known someone or worked with them on a decisive deal. I definitely recommend this place, Ardian in France is really a top shop to land.
Thxs everyone. How does the firm compare with traditional MM PE firms here in the U.S.? I'm obviously very early in my career to recruit for PE given that I'm in asset based lending, I never knew it was a possibility to go directly into PE. I'm always under the concept that I have to lateral to a IB coverage or lev fin team then spent 1.5 year there before recruiting for PE.
Does Ardian take into A1 directly out of University? Nothing much going on on their website.
They had SA/FT OCR openings for NYC at my target, but run a very small operation in the US from what I hear, almost exclusively FoF
Assuming you're asking about European offices: They are mostly hiring former interns as analysts and rarely post analyst jobs as far as I know.
I know nothing about PE. Only read through some previous post from WSO. When people say Ardian give out solid pay, what does that mean in $? What is the pay for someone that moved into Ardian or MM PE after 2nd year analyst? What is the pay of a investment manager (it seems like it's the equivalent of an associate)?
Usually investment manager is Senior Associate/VP, Director is Principal, and MD is MD - these titles are often used for EU funds.
Ardian is solid. Easily a top emea player - very good infra and they do secondaries, FoF and buyouts. No clue on pay tho i imagine its decent
Any further comments on them regarding prestige and culture? Maybe even any first hand insights. Are they a solid Exit option in continental Europe?
I have just recently read an article saying they have been the most active PE in Europe in the last decade. There is surprisingly litte on them on wso
