Are internships overrated?

I am currently interning at a PE and I feel like I barely do anything. I'm constantly asking others on my team for more work and some days I spend 10 hours staring at my computer screen. I do understand that internships are a great way to gain experience and definitely make the recruiting process for a FT job way easier, but am I the only one that expected the workload to be way more intense?

Just communicate. I felt the same way and when I just went into my bosses office to chat about my experience, he said that sometimes the team struggles in knowing how much to give an intern. Sometimes they’ll flood a kid by overestimating how much work they can handle, leading them to be super conservative on giving work the next go round. Not that there isn’t work for you to do, they just want to be considerate I guess or don’t want to run the risk of you not having a deliverable or project done.

Internship experience vary alot from shop to shop and person to person. I noticed people with good attitude typically get a much better experience - showing you're motivated and eager usually makes people want to spend time to explain and to actually get you involved. Also common trend I noticed is it is much easier to get an intern to help when he's in the same room (i.e. if you're working remote it will be tough to get attention from your seniors)
