Associate 1 to PE or Analyst 2 to PE?

Hey Folks - been a while since I've posted here but as PE recruiting rolls on I could use your collective wisdom on how to proceed:

I graduated from a target school (e.i. T-20/Ivy/etc.) this year and am currently an Analyst 1 at a top bulge bracket and I am so very thankful for the opportunity. That being said, I am placed in a regional office and in a division that has weaker placement into PE roles. As a result, I feel the typical recruiting timeline will not land me the type of positions that I am seeking in PE. My question is, would it be a good plan to internally transfer within my bank to a better-placing NYC division after my 2-year analyst program and then try to switch to private equity after 1 year as an associate? The division that I would like to switch to has strong PE placement and I believe I am in a strong position to be able to transfer into them.

If I should recruit to PE from my current position, I would appreciate any related advice. If I should plan to move internally before recruiting for PE: 1) What should I do over the next 2 years in addition to making sure I am able to move to the other division and 2) Should I avoid speaking with HHs?

Quite frankly, as a student I joined my current division without fully understanding the implications in terms of aligning with my long term goals in the industry and I am trying to find my way back on path with what I would like to do.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide!
