Background check paranoia - applying from abroad

I've secured an offer for an associate-level PE role but I'm losing my mind over the background check. I'm (hopefully) moving from Europe to the US for this role. However my education and prior work experience has all been based in Europe and I'm anxious that I'm going to fail the BG check due to irregularities in my background compared to an American candidate.

1. Application asked for my GPA, but my uni doesn't do GPA so I just used an online conversion tool to change my uni results to the American GPA scale, but I'm worried this will cause an issue if they ask my uni for my "GPA".

2. For one of my internships, I put an abbreviated name for the firm but didn't realise there's an American firm with a very similar name. Imagine if I interned at "Blue Investments Inc.", so on the application I just put "Blue Investments", but there's a similar firm called "Blue Global Investments Inc." which a completely different firm that an American person might think of first.

3. I'm completing an online degree in my spare time. I included this on the application and put that my expected / planned completion date is 2024. I'm hoping to complete it by the end of this year but I'm not sure how this should be verified since I obviously don't have the certification of completion yet. And if I relocate to the US, then to be honest I'm not even sure if I can stay enrolled in this programme because the fees that I pay are based on my physical location.

This is my dream job and there was a lot of competition for the role, so I'm just incredibly paranoid that if anything goes wrong, I'll lose it :(

They know you are based in Europe, this won't be a surprise to them. So some differences ie like GPA are expected.

Are you receiving a visa from this company for the job? If yes, their lawyer and their internal HR team will also need additional information for this. The USCIS will also do their own background check and provide (some) feedback to their lawyer.

on the form they will provide you can add the full legal name of the firm you worked at

and for the expected grad date / just use your transcripts until you graduate.

Fortunately I have a US passport because I was born in the States, so that's one less thing to feel anxious about!

Is it standard practice that I provide the necessary documentation to verify my education? Or will they need to receive it directly from the institution? I can show that I've paid to enroll in the online programme and that I'm actively studying for it, but it's basically a "one exam and you're done" format so I don't know if it can be verified by contacting the university.

pretty much all colleges have some form of a transcript or attendance system. And there is only one exam in the entire degree? it's a bit different then, I guess.

yeah, the background check is normally done by an external agency. they collect everything you provide, including the contact at the college. they will contact them and the school will provide whatever is required.

within financial services they normally check criminal, education, credit / finance and maybe social media check (not always).

Hahaha luckily it's not this blatant. The firm that I interned at is well-known in the UK but they don't have a big international footprint, and likewise I'd never even heard of the American firm until I googled it now to prepare for the BG check.

My degree is an upper second class honours, but I don't think that means anything in the States.

background checks are for criminal records mainly and to confirm that you did study / work where you said you did.

unless you lied i wouldnt worry about it
