bay area PE shops
are there any reputable PE shops in the bay area/west coast, or is the financial landscape basically dominated by venture capital?

Career Resources
tpg, hellman & friedman, golden gate, francisco partners
most bigger shops also have offices out there (kkr, blackstone, silverlake, etc)
plenty of good shops in bay area
+Silver Lake.
Also, if you extend term "PE" beyond the buyout phase (i.e. if you count Growth Equity shops that are beyond the venture phase), you'll find that most of the players are either based or have a strong presence out here.
Plenty of well known names will have various funds on the west coast. Usually they'll be more specific strategies like middle market buyout, credit/special situations, etc.
Blackstone and KKR have offices in Menlo Park; TPG has one in SF; Warburg Pincus has one in SF, etc.
There are also a ton of elite smaller PE shops scattered around California.
does Goldman Sachs Asset Management also have an office in Bay Area?
if you ask this question, you already have no chance...
Bump - Any new players in the game in the last ten years?
Housatonic Partners is a name I see getting thrown around.
Arcline, Patient Square, and Percheron are newer funds. Arcline and Percheron are Golden Gate spin-outs. The former crushed it with Fund I and raised a $2.75B fund a couple of years later.
Would also add Thoma Bravo, Genstar, GI Partners, and Gryphon. Welsh Carson has a SF office and Advent has one in Palo Alto (for tech fund).
