BDT vs. other UMMs?
Does anyone have insight into BDT experience relative to other UMM (at associate level)? Know it is mix of investing/advisory, are hours then more like a traditional bank? Is pay closer to traditional banking? Would appreciate any thoughts
LinkedIn shows people from other MF/UMMs so they at least pay in line or might even pay up. Heard BDT/MDP/GTCR paid >$350K+ AS1 last year and you get a COL bump in Chicago. There aren't really any MF/UMM firms with great WLB but they're one of the better ones.
I heard that their advisory isn't really traditional banking either as they focus on retainers
I had a chance to talk with a few people within BDT - to add to above they pursue deals outside of majority buyouts (i.e growth equity, minority stakes, debt financing). Was told that they tend staff ASO's more on the investing side, with analysts focused on the advisory work. They really empathised their focus on longer holding periods and lower leverage, but I don't know how much of that is marketing vs reality.
