Being honest in Interviews?

Hi,

worked at a MF and was not promoted due to internal politics/budget constraints (I was in a smaller office outside of the US), my boss highlighted they would like to keep me but simply can‘t. I then joined a LMM fund as I was being pushed out and needed an offer.

I am now recruiting for a UMM shop and think about how to position myself in an interview. Would you be honest when being asked „why did you leave MF?“ I feel like the budget argument sounds like an excuse and they could start thinking I left due to performance issues (I always got top performance reviews).

What would be the best approach here?
