Bertram Capital in SF?

Is anyone familiar with Bertram Capital in the bay area? I'm curious to know what their firm culture, recruiting process, etc. is like from anyone that knows of them. I'm not sure how well-known they are in the NorCal PE scene, but they seem to be getting pretty big (most recent fund size ~950mm).

I have one friend that sold them a company and two more that are considering it.

All had good things to say about how tactical/value-add their team was, and helpful around building out a true exec team.

I'm a little butthurt though since they outbid us for an asset we have been looking at for a while. Am actually confused why they did it because I feel it's too small for them...especially given their new fund sizes but hey. Not sure if it's going to be deployed similar to what HIG does where they'll raise a MM size fund but deploy it into LMM size deals with good velocity.

If anyone has insight around sizing, I'd love to hear about it.

Definitely, but this seems way too small for them and is much more of a deep value play than a vanilla LBO

I get doing deep value for correctly sized deals, but not deals on the smaller end of the spectrum.

Maybe they want to roll it into one of their platforms but I don’t see any synergy, at all. It’s actually a horrible co to buy for that reason lol.
