Best neighborhoods to live in LA near Century City as an IB/PE associate? (2022)
Hey all. From SF, now lateralling to a PE shop in LA. Office is in Century City.
Know nothing about LA real estate/neighborhoods, so looking for some help here.
Ran some WSO search, but seemed pretty outdated.
- I don't particularly like driving, would rather commute by e-scooter if possible
(Edit: Just to clarify, yes, I will get a car. I would still just prefer to commute without it!)
- Looking for a safe, quiet neighborhood with some amenities (e.g. dry cleaners), preferably a closed/locked community or apartment
- Hopefully rent isn't outrageous (i.e. not more than $4000, but ideally less than $3500)
Where would be the best neighborhoods to live on an IB/PE associate salary? Thanks!
Split a mansion in the hills with 1-2 buddies
Highly recommend Culver City. You'll have short commute, the area is one of the better ones in LA on the west side, and you'll have great access to basically anywhere else in LA you want to go on weeknights/weekends. You'll have to drive though, you're in LA my man.
I live in Culver City and commute to Century City, and love it, but caveat that it is not the "close scooter to work" commute. It is a very easy car commute unless you literally can't handle driving 20 minutes in traffic.
Apt. in Beverly Hills will be much closer for you. Look for something south of Wilshire, near Charlieville... or you could go near San Vicente on Robertson/Burton Way streets.. this will allow you to scooter to work. I just did a quick Redfin search, lot of nice places in 3000-4000 range.
Fuck I’m paying that money to live in SF… I need to move.
Personally like San Vincente / Brentwood, super nice neighborhood. Could also do Santa Monica which is abt a 15min drive but one of my favorite areas
Bump for 1st year analysts too (under $3000)
Sawtelle is your friend. Plenty of activity. Would personally recommend anywhere in Sawtelle between Olympic and Santa Monica Blvd. You can go further west to between Olympic and Pico or Santa Monica and Wilshere but Olympic/Santa Monica is the sweetspot.
Omg living in ramen paradise would actually be a dream yooooo
Certain parts of Westwood can be quiet (e.g., as long as you're not next to UCLA housing) and very close to Century City. but rent is pretty expensive there
Sawtelle, Culver City, “West LA” which runs from Sepulveda to Overland Ave and Pico Blvd to Santa Monica Blvd. You will need a car though to get to a lot of places / see friends
Sawtelle is slept on. Lower rents than more popular neighborhoods like Santa Monica, short drive from Century City (10-15 minutes), great food, and very close to cool neighborhoods like SM, Venice, Brentwood ,etc.
How feasible is it to just Uber to work everyday in LA?
What do you mean, how feasible? It's Uber, it's a big city... of course you can do it, easily. Not trying to be rude or anything, but Uber's practically all over the world.
Didn't take it as rude at all. Was just wondering cost-wise, taking uber every day to work vs cost of driving every day
Lots of good Apts near the Beverly Center (Burton Way, La Peer, even a nice building on Robertson). Sawtelle is also pretty close to Century City so that is def an option too. Culver is up and coming with good public transpo but not my cup of tea (roads are fucked). You’ll find a decent spot between 3200-4000 tbh
How can an IB analyst afford 3200-4000 a month in rent? That's over half of their monthly pay. Feel like a cheaper option would be better, no?
Fair point. There are options below this price range but would be studios which in LA kinda sucks. Was assuming a roommate was included also
OP is an associate.
If you wanna save money as an analyst, you have no choice but to live farther away or with roommates
I'm in the exact same situation as you (PE associate) just in the process of moving to LA and looking for similar amenities. Would be curious about where you ended up / how much you're paying. Feel free to DM me.
