Best roles to exit PE?
I'm an Associate burnt out from PE. I have a side hustle making $50k/yr and would want to scale and devote more time to it. To limit my risk and cover my daily expenses, I am looking for a remote job $150k base 40 hours/wk no weekend work or thinking about work past 5pm
What is out there?

I could think of the following:
Prestigious careers at 50-60h week
- Some LMM PE shops can have 50-60h work week and will still provide very good long-term pay
- Consulting is around ~50h per week and no weekend work at all
- Some VC shops will have better WLB, but it might be hard to make the transition
Work-life balance careers at ~40h week
- Corp Dev at a big company
- Low tier strategy consulting: boutiques, etc.
- Head of growth at a start-up (potential equity upside)

Be an LP - it’s basically exactly what you’re describing if you can find one that’s remote. You also get far more geographic diversity with LP jobs since there are endowments and pensions in every corner of the country.
I would suggest looking at 100% remote jobs. I know people who work at Fortune 500 companies treasury teams that have the exact schedule you have in your post. 40 hour work week, almost completely remote and zero stress.
Did they start in IB or start in those roles at junior levels? A stress-free 40 hour a week job sounds amazing while in IB but have seen people on here end up bored in those type of roles after a while.
I think that is a question only you can ask yourself. What is more important to you - money or more personal time?
Yes, I imagine some former bankers appreciate the less intense job, while others can never seem to forget how much more they were paid.
Ive thought about this dilemma many times, would I be happier shifting from high finance to a regular Fortune 500 job. Half the hours and half the pay?
In a vacuum, a Corp dev or treasury type job at a large company pays better than most jobs in America, but obviously pales in comparison to high finance.
I think for me, I have way too much lifestyle creep, and expectations from fsmily and friends to willingly walk away from banking. When I was younger, I always scoffed at the older guys who wasted money on cars and jewelry and took high prestige jobs just to appease their family. Like who cares about material wealth or what others thought? Why would you want to be with a woman who likes expensive things? Why have kids when when you could eschew them and retire early? I could never understand why so many people married and had kids.
But as I got older, I grew into the life I thought was stupid and economically inefficient. When I was at an ivy, I could have cared less, now I like having it on my resume. I thought having a family was for losers who couldn’t pull girls, but now I find it much more fulfilling than when I was single. I thought having nice things was wasteful and unnecessary, but now I enjoy them.
Basically, I wonder if what you said was right. Are the former bankers bored in their “lesser” jobs? Or do they simply miss the money and all the trappings that come with that?
