Bocconi MFin vs LSE MSc Finance
alright guys. This is the sequel to "
Got Dinged from 1 of my 2 Top Choice programs! What do you think are my chances for LBS MFA?
". I am writing this post because I also got dinged from LBS. So here's a refresher of my profile:
EDUCATION:
- Italian student. Not Bocconi. Top 10 uni. GPA 30.11/30. Took me 4 yrs to finish rather than 3. Had to do that to maintain my GPA. Compensated for it with a second internship in M&A.
- GMAT 700. Bit of a bummer this one. I had initially scored 750 but they invalidated my score.
- Exchange in top 5 business school in Europe. Excellent GPA there, 18/20.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 2 internships in M&A. First ongoing, small boutique in Milan. Second will start shortly, Big 4, also M&A. (I managed to get this second internship the week after I had had a meeting with a recruitment officer from LBS in Milan. The only thing she mentioned about my profile was that I could have had greater chances with a second internship, and so I found it)
- Lot of experience in the family business (non finance)
- Founder of a profitable real estate start-up. 50K revenue in 7 months of operation.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACT.:
- Founder of the biggest finance-related club in my uni. Helped a bunch of people with getting internships in high finance.
- C2 in English
- Completed Wall Street Prep modelling course
Now two options lay in front of me, Bocconi MFin and LSE MSc Finance. My goal is to get into BB/EB in London. Many ppl with whom I have spoken say that Bocconi's placement is simply better, while others sustain that LSE has the upper hand. What do you guys think? I will obviously apply to both but I wanna hear your take on this. Thanks!
Bump. Also Interested.

I think you can get into both programmes. Bocconi is a full target, especially since you are Italian, but London does outperform Bocconi and has the advantage of being only one year over two years, which means that you "gain" an extra year of Salary (which more than offsets the higher cost of LSE, imo).
Apply to both. Get both. Then let's chat. We're not the admissions committee and no amount of "you have a solid shot" or "you should give up" will change the steps you need to take. Good luck!
Ahahah yeah that's for sure. This post is more like "which of the two gives you the best shot at London IB" rather than "Do you thin I can get in?" kinda thing.
with all your experience, no matter which you pick, you are a target and qualified candidate.
you should therefore go with the cheapest option and focus your energy on other things.
Hey thanks a bunch man! Really appreciate it!
Bocconi will shape you to become a real bellend - the worst people I’ve worked with are Bocconi alum (nice people conversationally, but horrible to work with). I’m an LSE alum and while I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to everyone, I’d advise going there vs Bocconi. Make no mistake, LSE is full of virgins, but you’ll have a solid few people who can be lifelong friends and also have the advantage of being in London.
Ahahaha loved this comment. Can I PM you?
When and if you get both offers, you could start to ask the question of which to choose, but right now the answer is just apply to both, and hope. If you get admitted to just one of the two, go without looking back because it's really just splitting hair at this level. They are two of the best institutions in Europe and you will get every interview you want.
I don't want to alarm you but I think at Bocconi you will have a lower chance because you took the extra year to finish and they don't really love that, but your overall profile looks very strong so I wouldn't worry too much.
