Breaking into Infra PE | Incoming GSB MBA Candidate | Civil Engineer

Hello!

I am an incoming GSB MBA candidate with nearly 8 years of technical civil engineering background (got a Bachelors, Masters in Civil Engg) in designing and project management of large-scale structures (think stadiums, high-rises, industrial facilities etc) around the world. If it matters any bit, am also a licensed professional engineer.

Have always been fascinated by infrastructure (the physical world) and am looking to pivot to Infra PE post-MBA with a particular interest in working in EM and next-gen sustainable infrastructure.

This summer, I'm learning financial modelling and project finance through Wall Street Prep courses. Additionally, I am also doing two pre-MBA internships: one with a deeptech VC (gaining buy-side due diligence and thesis development experience) and another with a small finance/IB shop.

I seek advice on how realistic it is to break into Infra PE, given my non-traditional background, and how I can leverage my time at GSB to improve my chances.

Some additional background information: International, ORM, Male

Target firms: Major players like BlackRock, BX,  GIP, KKR,MIRA etc and boutique funds like Actis. I also plan to recruit for IB at BB's Infra/Natural Resource/Energy groups as a backup.

Thank you for your time and feedback!
