Call after Superday and then no update, is it still a positive sign?

Had a superday at this PE firm two weeks ago for an analyst role. Pretty soon after the recruiter called and said the interviews were great and asked my preferred city. My referral also congratulated me and said looking forward to working with me. But there has been no updates since then, I'm not sure if they are still reviewing my qualifications or already decided to hire me but just behind administrative bs. The recruiter is pretty ambigious, I reached out to her and she said she will contact me as soon as she has an update for me.

Have you guys run into similar situations, what could possibly cause such a long waiting time? Should I stay positive and wait for their response since this firm is my first choice or should I move on to other interviews? And should I talk to my referral about my current status, or should I follow up with recruiter one more time to ask if they already made a decision? (Although I feel they still gonna stay ambigious)

After 2 weeks I'd assume they chose someone else, or as a best case scenario you're on a waitlist if someone declines. Most of the time HR won't give you a straight answer and firms just ghost. Administrative stuff can take a day or two to get an offer letter over, but at least with a verbal offer you almost always hear within 24 hours, maybe 3-4 days tops. Don't know anyone who has gotten an offer 2 weeks later.

Think you've got to move on, sorry man

At a PE firm not really - even MFs don't take that many. 5 per group would be a ton of analysts. Typical UMM I'd guess 3-4 tops.

Even with that, I help with recruiting on the IB side filling 50+ slots - in this situation it wouldn't matter what slots we had left, 2+ weeks from superday you would be long out of mind from the recruiting team's perspective

Crossing my fingers for you but until you have a signed offer in hand you need to be recruiting at 110% gas

You never know what’s going on behind the scenes (HR can be notoriously slow and analyst recruiting for a PE firm is probably the lowest of their priorities tbh), but from what you described everything sounds positive (nobody reaches out to candidates who didn’t make the cut). I’d maybe reach out to your referral if you feel comfortable enough with that relationship. Just know that reaching out too much isn’t a good look either. Just sit tight and keep interviewing. Nothing is final until it is, but you sound like you’re in a good spot. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

FWIW, it took HR like a week to get back to me about my offer after my super day despite them saying they “have an update for me” the day after the final interview. This is for a buyside firm with a small analyst class. PE firms don’t really have huge HR departments like the large IBs and they don’t really hire many analysts if at all so they’re just generally slower (even more so than regular HR departments) I would imagine.

My recruiter and referral said that they had to sign some NDOs, legal work and basically promises saying that they (referral) and I won’t share confidential information with each other.

It’s kind of like a safeguard for the company, make sure that we are not sharing information between us and if anything were to be leaked, the company would be absolved of all liability and we (referral and I) would be held liable.
