Career Advice for 1st Year Analyst
I'm a first year working in a top group at a mid-level BB (think BAML / CS / DB) and graduated from a target Ivy (Harvard / Yale / Princeton). The next goal (as of right now) is PE at a megafund, but I definitely do not feel ready at this moment to go through the interview process in Jan / Feb. I have some deal experience on my resume, but none that I can confidently speak about right now. And, although I'm sure I could study up in the coming months on the technicals, I feel behind compared to the rest of my class. As a final point of context, the ultimate goal is to go to HBS / Stanford GSB, graduate, and then start my own company.
Given this, do you think I should postpone a year before going through recruiting, or just go ahead this year? And if I should postpone a year, what are people's thoughts on lateraling to a top group at GS / MS / JPM, to better my chances at a better MF offer (KKR / TPG / Carlyle)?
