Carlyle Liability Management Group
Can someone shed some light on this group and what exactly they do?
Here's some brief description of the team and role:
"This person should have experience in establishing and managing various leveraged facilities. The Associate will be primarily focused on fund financing."
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining existing leverage facilities
- Working closely with various portfolio managers and other team members within Global Credit to determine specific leverage needs for the business
- Determining optimum leverage solutions, working in coordination with finance providers and legal counsel
- Creating and negotiating term-sheets and credit agreements
- Performing financial analysis and data requests
- Creating marketing presentations
- Working closely with our Portfolio Managers and finance providers to ensure best execution
- Servicing our Credit teams in order to provide optimum leverage solutions
.
This sounds like a junior role in Carlyle's capital markets team. Basically an internal lev fin group working for PE instead of on the bank side. I'd imagine this role is partially related to the large volume of lender negotiation type work that popped up during early COVID for sponsor PortCos.
Potential Pros:
Compared to traditional lev fin, this seems like a cool role where you are taking a more tangible role in investment execution
Role will likely require interfacing directly with or through a senior with a bank's lev fin team to push them on fees etc
I may have misunderstood the description, but the above would apply if this is for deal execution / portfolio management. If they are actually referring to fund financing, many PE funds are looking into esoteric financing structure to better allow new parties to invest in funds. The megafunds are looking at / doing collateralized fund deals to better raise money from insurance companies vs traditional LPs. This lowers the cost of capital for the fund. This is likely the future of megafund private equity but the role will kind of be like a firm strategy and execution role within the firm.
Hope this is helpful, I don't know anyone personally is this type of role but have met senior people (MDs) that have gone from traditional lev fin to capital markets at a PE firm.
Feel like it could also be a middle-office type of role which supports said cap markets team. Otherwise agree
bump, anyone have more information on this group?
