Cinven - duration of associate / principal programmes (Originally Posted: 09/30/2015)
Hi guys, i checked out Linkedin profiles of some of the associates and principals at Cinven and it seems that their associate programme lasts 3-4 years and then they become principals for another 5+ years. Can someone confirm the duration of those programmes and how likely it is to get promoted to principal? 5+ years as principal sounds like a lot, unless it is because the firm does not have director-level. I am talking about the London office. thanks
I don't know Cinven that well, but it's very common for European PE to have only 3 levels (Associate, Principal / Director / VP, Partner / MD). So the time your listed in each position is quite normal for associate level and i'd say 5 years at principal level is probably light, would think promotion to partner happens after 6-8 years at the earliest (they do have senior principal though I just noticed on their website). Generally speaking, Euro PE funds (or companies in general), promote people at a much slower pace than in America.
