Co-invest fund to traditional buyout
As the title suggests I am currently an associate at a well-known PE shop that primarily takes minority stakes when partnering with port-cos, and co-invests alongside other prominent PE groups for buy-outs in the MM.
Although I am involved in operations with the port-cos and driving value, I feel I am missing out not being a part of a traditional buyout fund working on majority transactions.
Thinking about making the switch so wanted to ask if HH or traditional funds would otherwise view my experience as irrelevant and what I would have to do to position myself to overcome these hurdles.
I've seen it from GIC a lot but that's also because those are generally bluer chip candidates who used to work in control pe looking to move back.
Have you seen non-blue chip candidates trying to make the jump? I imagine it would be harder given its not direct experience IMO
