Comp Discussion

Just got an offer from an opportunistic credit fund. Total AUM is $5bn in NYC.

I have 6 years of experience 2 in management consulting, 2 in banking (analyst/associate) and 2 in corporate PE (associate with an offer for senior associate).

What would be a market offer in terms of base, bonus, co-invest/carry?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a breakdown of compensation insights for someone with your background and experience level at an opportunistic credit fund in NYC:

  1. Base Salary:

    • For associates or senior associates at credit funds, base salaries typically range between $150k-$200k. Given your 6 years of experience and progression, you might lean toward the higher end of this range.
  2. Bonus:

    • Bonuses for associates/senior associates in credit funds are generally 50-100% of base salary, depending on fund performance and individual contribution.
  3. Co-Invest/Carry:

    • Co-investment opportunities and carry allocations can vary significantly by fund size and structure. For a $5bn AUM fund, carry might be offered at the senior associate level, but it could be modest initially. A typical carry allocation might range from 0.5%-1%, depending on fund policies and your role.

If you’re negotiating, aim for the higher end of the ranges given your diverse experience across consulting, banking, and PE.
