Consulting v IB turned PE

Hey, I m about to enter an M7 MBA program and has been a long time silent reader of this forum. My pre-mba background had nothing to do with consulting/finance and realised it would be hard to land any PE role straight out of my MBA degree. Folks are saying IB gives you better PE exits and if I m serious about PE and investing, I should go IB. But then there are others also saying that MBB will also give you your fair share of look from reputable PE shops. Now I m torn. It seems to me that consultants have a lot of client facing, presentation, business high level thinking experience which will make consultants great for improving operation of portco companies whilst bankers’ valuation, financial modelling and deal structuring experience make them ideal for running investment deals and target acquisitions. I have more interest in understanding how capitals work and executing/making investment decision done the track and therefore feel that banking is the way to go. But on the other hand, if MBB route can get me into the same end covering investing side of the PE, why not enjoy more protected weekends and spend more time with young families? So here comes the question, would the MBB route take me to the investing side of PE shops eventually or I should just soldier on to grind out 2 years at IBD. Thanks.
