CPP Private Investments exit opportunities.

Hi,

I was wondering about how much CPP Investment Board's private investments experience will help to get in to one of the mega PE shop such as KKR and Apollo.

Also will there be any problem in later career in terms of promotion or job performance if you don't have any IB or MC experience prior to PE?

Thank you

Exit opps are pretty bad outside of Canada. US employers will think that you work for a pension fund (CALPERS) and don't have a high regard for them.

Also contrary to what people say hours are not exactly a walk in the park - 80 hours a week with lots of weekend work. For a $130 - $150 K salary range, you are probably making more at an ibank on a per hour basis.

CDNmonkey,

There is no precedent for CPP analyst jumping anywhere right ? I "linkedin" a lot of these guys and it seems the exit opps for people out of CPP are pretty much going to work as cooks or waiters as they completely disappear from the world of finance after they quit. I would add thesame for analysts coming from Teachers. I know an ex analyst who ended up going to bschool in the US and now works for a big 4 consulting firm in New York. It seems these pension fund private equity groups are feeders into "no where". I guess it sad as there is not much option out of TO. Correct me if I am wrong.

Old thread I realize...BUT...I would expect this is largely due to the fact that the CPPIB is relatively young and only started investing in 2000. Hence, it's not at all surprising that a LinkedIn search would NOT yield a lot of information of post company opportunities.
