Crossover Tech Funds?

My long term goal is to be at a fund like Altimeter or Dragoneer covering a vertical across public and private markets.

What does the career path look like to get to one of these funds? Do they mostly take people from Tech PE? What about GE/VC as a stepping stone? Can you jump over straight from banking?

Just a sophomore in college thinking about the future so any insight is appreciated.
