Heard they’re going to run a roll-up playbook and use their data science team to source acquisition targets. Assume pay is very good but seems like a pilot program for them and not sure what medium term job security would look like (hard to believe a top quant firm would want to seriously dive into LMM / MM PE)
heard similar. Doesn't seem like an area of main focus for them or the other quant shops that set this up. I know Two Sigma has a similar PE team and tries to make money via multiple arbitrage using all sorts of data.
Pay there was great, DE Shaw definitely great too.
What is peoples perception of these roles? Meaning PE in HFs. While you are doing MM/LMM deals (and not large cap) you are paid exceptionally well. Trying to think between one of these roles and traditional UMM / MF PE
Really a question of interest + NPV. If you like looking at small businesses and want to help build out their PE business + believe you will perform and DE Shaw won’t can the strategy then prob a good seat with good pay. Drawback is if you spend a couple years there, you will likely be branded as a LMM guy and it would probably be hard to go to a larger firm. Could prob do LMM after though.
I would have thought that if you work at such a high calibre place your exits if you decide to change after a few years are pretty open tbh (especially if you did a few years of UMM/MF PE before)
