Deciding where to start my career (boutique advisor internship)

Hello, I'm a junior at a non-target. I've been looking to break into investment banking as a path to private equity, and right now I'm evaluating two last-minute choices for a summer internship (outside NYC). One is a very small, local boutique M&A advisor (does industrials and energy downstream) with about 3-5 people, that is well-established and 'old-fashioned' in a few ways. The other is a 6-man project finance startup which builds financing packages for middle market utility projects, that is new and fast-moving (they have 600MW of projects lined up and have done $2 billion of transactions in the last seven years, and is rapidly expanding).

Since I have only a 3.5 GPA and am coming from a non-target, I'm realistic about my chances of moving up to a BB or elite boutique investment bank. It's likely that I will be working full-time at one of these two places after graduation. So, between these two options, which one would give me a better shot at moving directly into private equity after a couple years? (Obviously I'm not expecting a spot with Blackstone, I just mean any regional PE firm that offers decent pay and opportunities.) Or would it be near-impossible either way?
