FDD to PE
Is it plausible to go from Deals - Financial Due Diligence to Private Equity? I am currently set to work in FDD this summer and am evaluating the roadmap for a potential move to Private Equity at a technology focused firm (Vista, Silver Lake, etc.) after 2-3 years of full-time work. I would prefer to cut out Investment Banking, if possible, although I wouldn't be totally opposed to it. I just feel that the work crossover is similar between IB and FDD and besides the prestige I'm not sure if it is worth it. Thanks in advance!
No - do banking.
Speaking from experience (did 1.5 year in Big4 FDD then lateraled to IB)
The only PE shops that will show any interest are <$150MM funds, and even then you will be up against stiff competition from anyone who has done IB, especially in this market.
Thank you for the advice. How long should I stay in FDD before I make a move to IB? And then same thing with IB for a move to PE
Do a year at a Big4 FDD place and move to IB. You can start recruiting for PE once you hit the desk in IB since the roles typically start a year+ in advance
Maybe LMM, definitely not Vista and Silver Lake tier places.
