First internship, no finance knowledge/background, terrified of what the work may be like

Hi everyone!

I start in 3.5 weeks at a private equity firm (1.5bn AUM) and a bit worried about it. Up until 19, I was pursuing professional football, stopped, only degree I managed to get into was Business Management, and then worked 2 years as a marketing manager for an agrochemical company. Started my masters in Australia, 2-year degree in Finance/Fintech, got a distinction in my first term and somehow secured this internship as an international student.

I’m terrified as I have zero experience or knowledge and don’t know where to start for it. Being 25 doesn’t help either I feel.

So far:
- I’ve started and doing the WSO excel crash course to at least know that much
- Do I need to brush up on some accounting before I try to learn modelling etc?
- What do I need to prioritise learning and in which order?
- What is the work on a day-to-day basis like as an intern in this field? Will it be modelling, will it be research, will it be getting data out and putting it together (of which I know nothing on how to do that)?

Please, any help would be appreciated and the more detailed the better!
Thanks!

I’m not sure how much will be expected of me, they do know that I don’t have much finance experience for reference but as they seem to have a small team, I feel I’ll be expected to do more than usual. I am more than willing to put in the hours before and during the internship, but just need a little guidance on how to build up after excel. I’d hate to walk in, not know how to do anything or pull data together or analyse it or know modelling etc.
