Fp&a Associate for a PE port. co to a PE fund Associate

I want to know of what ways you guys think one could leverage an FP&A Associate role for a PE portfolio company into a role at a PE fund. Have you known someone to take this route? Any info on this would be appreciated as I have just been extended such a position.

What does it matter if someone else has done it if you just did it?

Or, are you just looking to get some praise and recognition on an anonymous internet message board?

I believe he has just been extended the FP&A position and wants to know if it will eventually lead to a PE role. To the original poster: Unlikely, as you will probably not have any direct exposure to the PE professionals and no ability to showcase your skills, regardless of how good you are.

^^ To echo Comp, it will be an uphill battle as you will have no direct transaction experience, and no reputable PE shop is going to take an associate without this. You will need to get some direct deal experience before you would be able to join a PE shop.

Thanks for the answers guys. The position is a hybrid where I'm working with the Partners. Main responsibilities are FP&A (strategic) role for the Portfolio Companies while also having Fund level responsibilities as they come up with regards to analyzing investments and deals...however, I'm not sure how often this would happen so I was trying to get an idea by just focusing on the FP&A aspect. The senior partners have Real Estate experience (CBRE MDs) and Operating/Consulting experience. I will be working side by side with them as it is a small firm.

Hope that clears it up
