Fund culture diligence before you join?

Hi guys:

Before you join a fund, what have you found to be the best way to diligence the fund’s culture please? I know the standard contacting current/former employees route, but often people are more willing to say nice things and omit what’s challenging (and it makes sense for their incentives). What are some ways you’ve found to get a deeper sense of the fund’s culture?

Thank you

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.
