Fundamental Edge worth it for PE associate targeting L/S SM?

Hey guys. First-year ASO at a MF, want to end up at a L/S SM eventually. Been going back and forth on Fundamental Edge and can't tell if it's actually useful or just well-marketed.

For anyone who did it:

- Was any of it new, or did it mostly rehash stuff you already do all day?
- Did it help at all in actual interviews (pitch, variant view, sizing), or is that stuff you only really learn by doing?
- If you had the money back, would you buy it again?

Thanks in advance!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about the Fundamental Edge program and its relevance for a PE associate targeting L/S SM:

  1. Content Value: Many users have noted that the program provides a solid framework for understanding public markets, particularly for those transitioning from private equity. However, if you're already familiar with fundamental analysis, valuation, and building a variant view (skills you likely use daily in PE), some of the material might feel repetitive.

  2. Interview Preparation: The program is often praised for its focus on practical skills like pitching stocks, developing a variant view, and understanding position sizing. These are critical for L/S SM interviews, and the structured approach can help refine your thinking. That said, some argue that these skills are best honed through actual experience and practice rather than coursework alone.

  3. ROI: Whether it's worth the investment depends on your current skill set and learning style. If you're confident in your ability to self-study and practice pitches, you might not find it necessary. However, if you value a structured curriculum and feedback, it could be a worthwhile investment. Feedback from past participants is mixed—some found it transformative, while others felt it wasn't worth the cost.

  4. Recommendation: If you're serious about L/S SM and feel you need to bridge gaps in your public markets knowledge or refine your pitch skills, it could be a helpful tool. However, consider supplementing it with real-world practice, such as creating and presenting stock pitches to mentors or peers.

Ultimately, weigh the cost against your current knowledge and the potential value it could add to your preparation. If you're still unsure, you might explore free or lower-cost resources first to gauge whether you need the additional depth Fundamental Edge offers.
