Graduated Early - Questions about preparing for On-Cycle and the GMAT
I graduated from undergrad in December and will be joining a BB as an analyst in the summer. Until then, I am working at a lower middle market PE firm and planing to do some preparation for PE On-Cycle recruiting and study for / take the GMAT. Would love any advice as to how best to use my time ahead of recruiting and any recommendations for courses / study materials for the GMAT.
Thank you!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips to prepare for On-Cycle PE recruiting and the GMAT:
On-Cycle PE Recruiting Preparation: - Understand the Process: Familiarize yourself with the timeline and expectations of on-cycle recruiting. It's a fast-paced and highly competitive process. - Polish Your Resume: Ensure your resume is impeccable and that you can discuss every detail on it confidently. - Behavioral Prep: Refresh and polish your behavioral interview responses. Practice them out loud and consider doing mock interviews with peers. - Technical Skills: Sharpen your financial modeling and case study skills. These are critical and can be the differentiator in the recruiting process. - Networking: Start building relationships with headhunters (HHs) as they play a crucial role in the PE recruiting process. - Investor Mindset: Develop your ability to think like an investor. This mindset is key in PE interviews and case studies.
GMAT Preparation: - Study Materials: Consider reputable GMAT prep courses like Manhattan Prep, Kaplan, or the official GMAT study guides. - Practice Tests: Regularly take practice tests to gauge your progress and become familiar with the test format. - Time Management: Develop a study schedule that allows for consistent study without burning out. Balance is key. - Focus on Weaknesses: Identify areas where you need improvement and allocate more time to those sections.
Remember, while a high GMAT score can help, it won't completely make up for a poor academic history. It's one component of your profile that demonstrates your abilities and work ethic. As for courses, Wall Street Oasis offers various courses that could be beneficial, such as the WSO Networking Guide, Investment Banking Prep, and Private Equity Interview Prep. These resources can provide you with a structured approach to your preparation efforts.
Good luck with your preparations, and remember to focus on what you can control and put your best foot forward!
