HBS -> PE

Ladies and gents, I have the good fortune of being in the middle of my first year at Harvard Business School. I have some non-PE finance experience prior to business school, BUT I WANT IN (at least for an internship). If you have any info on 1) firms that actively recruit internships or 2) advice for breaking in with my background (mixed feedback on how hard it’ll be), that would be much appreciated! Cheers

You’re asking the wrong audience. Ask the second years. HBS has a very extensive network and firms that do hire MBA interns through a formal program generally recruit at HBS. Your second years are in theory networking like crazy as they attempt to secure full time PE jobs themselves and should have a good pulse on the market.

Even from HBS, you are going to have a pretty hard time landing PE with no prior experience. I can't tell if "middle of your first year" means you just started 3 weeks ago, hopefully - as you'll have more time.

Slightly depends on your prior finance experience and profile, MM is probably doable just from the brand, but MFs are not going to take you without experience. You're like the one non-PE guy swimming against a sea of Chads with 2 years IB / 2 years PE... you can be the best candidate in the world and you just can't compete against 4 years of grinding out models as a junior.

Any interest in the IB path first? You can do 2 years of IB as an associate and hop into PE pretty easily.
