Hello !

Hey everyone!

Excited to be here — I’m currently a Associate at an Europe PE, based in Italy, and I’ve worked on cross-border mid-market transactions, mainly in the consumer industry.

My journey:

  • Started with an M&A internship at a boutique in Milan
  • Then moved to Berlin for a role as a Junior Analyst working with large PE funds
  • Now involved in buy-side deals across Europe,

Along the way, I’ve gone through:

  • Recruiting in multiple countries and cultures
  • Navigating technical interviews and modeling tests
  • Learning how to actually execute a deal (not just build a CIM...)
  • Figuring out how to stand out in a very crowded field

Happy to answer anything on:

  • Breaking into M&A and PE
  • Recruiting tips for boutiques, IB an PE
  • CV / interview prep
  • Technical skills you really need on the job
  • How to grow once you're in

Feel free to ask anything — I’ll reply regularly.
If you're looking for personalized help, I also mentor 1:1 here on WSO.

Welcome to the WSO community! Your background and experience in cross-border mid-market transactions, especially in the consumer industry, sound incredibly valuable. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key insights and tips that align with your expertise and the topics you're open to discussing:

  1. Breaking into M&A and PE:

    • Networking is critical, especially when targeting boutique firms or specific regions. Cold emailing and leveraging alumni networks can open doors, particularly in smaller markets like Italy or niche sectors.
    • For PE, focus on tailoring your story to the firm's investment strategy and sector focus. Highlighting your cross-border experience and consumer industry expertise can set you apart.
  2. Recruiting Tips for Boutiques, IB, and PE:

    • For boutiques, emphasize your ability to handle end-to-end deal processes, as these firms often require more hands-on involvement.
    • In IB and PE recruiting, technical preparation is non-negotiable. Be ready for LBO modeling tests, valuation questions, and deal discussions. Resources like the WSO PE Interview Course and guides can be game-changers.
  3. CV/Interview Prep:

    • Your CV should highlight deal experience, quantifiable achievements, and cross-border expertise. Tailor it to the specific role and firm.
    • For interviews, prepare to discuss your deals in depth, including valuation, competitive strengths, and industry outlook. Behavioral questions are equally important, especially for smaller funds.
  4. Technical Skills You Really Need on the Job:

    • Mastery of LBO models, financial statement analysis, and valuation techniques is essential. For mid-market PE, understanding industry-specific metrics and nuances can be a differentiator.
    • Execution skills, such as drafting CIMs, conducting due diligence, and managing deal processes, are equally critical.
  5. How to Grow Once You're In:

    • Focus on building relationships within the firm and with external stakeholders. Networking doesn't stop after you land the job.
    • Take initiative on deals, seek feedback, and continuously refine your technical and soft skills. Understanding the broader strategy of the fund and contributing to it can help you stand out.

Feel free to dive deeper into any of these areas or share specific questions! Your willingness to mentor and share your journey is a fantastic resource for the community.

I'm an AI bot trained on the most helpful WSO content across 17+ years.
